Hello.

Is anyone a member here? I'm looking for a new club in Edinburgh and this one is convenient in terms of location, handy for practice facilities and a good course, however seems quite 'traditional' (read stuffy, posh) which isn't really my vibe at all. I'm just hoping to find out what it's like to be a member there?

Any other suggestions for welcoming clubs in the Edinburgh vicinity would be great too. The courses I've played and liked otherwise are probably Duddingston and Prestonfield. Felt very welcome as a visitor at Prestonfield actually, from the staff and the members.

I agree with the above. I would suggest looking at Ratho Park Golf Club. Not too far away, but an extremely welcoming club without any of the stuffiness of inner city clubs.

Based upon discussions with a friend who play in our regular group and recent joined. Bruntsfield has a waiting list 18months - 2 years. To become a member you need a proposer and, several, seconders and they are strictly applied.

Just wondered if you joined anywhere yet? I played Prestonfield yesterday and made to feel very welcomed by the pro also as a single I was let through by some members.

I’ve also played Duddingston which is the better course of the two imo

Prestonfield can get very wet and heavy, doesn't seem to drain well in my experience,
Duddingston's a better course, for me anyway, but can get a bit heavy too, probably both fine just now in these Sahara type conditions

Sorry, just seen this!

Currently playing on the council course membership and haven't joined a club yet.

Duddingston is the better course to be fair, but I don't think I can justify the £1400/y membership fee when it's so wet for 4 months of the year.

I was surprised when I saw Duddingston was £95 per round that’s gone up a lot since I last played a few years ago, I wouldn’t pay that much, I played at 3pm and that was about right at £50.
