I am intrigued by Mill Ride. It seems to be swapping ownership like kids swapping footie cards in the playground at the moment and those I know that are still members say the soul has gone. The clubhouse is sparsly used and there is no feeling of a club atmsosphere. It is still really wet in the winter and needs some major investment to sort the drainage issues out but if these could be addressed and it was given a spruce up it would be right back to the championship venue it was a decade ago. It just seems a bit tired.
From what I've been told, the Chinese guy who bought it in Feb did so without seeing it and was unimpressed enough to sell it again when he actually saw it - compared to some of the more illustrious nearby clubs!

It's always been a bit of a peculiar club with Membership restricted because of access roads.

The drainage 'problems' always seem to be seriously overblown. Apart from a small section, the only places that got boggy were in areas where you shouldn't be! Though running a huge Gas Main under 1 fairway understandably disturbed the drainage there considerably! It's still a primarily Clay based course though with all the issues that raises!

The quality/difficulty is there though. When it was used as a Qualifier for the Seniors Open at Sunningdale, the scores were several shots higher than the other courses used - Berkshire Red and Camberley Heath.

I looked at joining Mill Ride, before I joined SandMartins, but I couldn't really get a feel for the place when I was there - it all seemed a bit bland. The course felt like it needed a bit of TLC, the clubhouse was empty (and I was told by a previous member it was often closed), and they couldn't tell me the investment plans of the new owner other than buying new buggies - it's a shame as I remember as a youngster hearing all these good things about the place.

As for Blue Mountain, it will be a shame if they build on it, I have a number of friends who live closeby & they are doing everything they can to stop it, as someone has already said the traffic will be chaos if they go ahead, and it's a great place to learn golf.
