Best greens you have played on this season

Played Frilford Heath red a couple of years ago, nice layout but the greens were an embarrassment to them, slow, bumpy and generally very poor, I trust that they have improved since. The greens at Hanbury are quite good normally, hope you didn't pay too much for the round as it's not the greatest layout IMO

They are very very very good at the mo. just had European qualifying school there too so that maybe why they were so rapid. Guess 12 ish as they were definitely quicker than the els club in Dubai that was setup to play at 11.

Bowood was very very good,as were west hills yesterday!

The greens at my gaff are always excellent (except one green which is only 12 months old) so i am quite spoiled!

are you on about Bowood in Wiltshire? Every time I play it they have been terrible and were in fact diseased midway though 2012. I have however heard they are better now so will look forward to next visit.

Naas golf club, in Co Kildare, Ireland. Very quick and very true. Best I've played on in a couple of years to be honest.

As Rick said, no contest - I vote for Centurian - they are pure bent grass joy - firm and lovely - hope they stay that way for as long as possible as they battle the inevitable poa invasion. Bearwood's have also been great - as were Parkstone - they were a bit longer when we played but were very true - can't wait to play them again when they are really slick. Sunningdale was nice - Berkshire Red was decent, but Blue a bit disappointing. Last year, Blackmoor was a real highlight on H4H

I judge greens by the quality of the surface rather than just the speed. If you play on quality greens due to be cut they may be slow, but they will still be smooth with a nice firm base. Greens that are always soft, poor drainage, may be great a few times a year, but for the rest they can be puddings. Heathland greens from my experience seem to often have the best surfaces, St Georges Hill, The Berkshire, Liphook, Hankley Common etc.

Totally agree and the greens at West Hill on Monday were in my view evidence of that. Not quick on the day but true as you like and you know they could be made as quick as you like too.

This year it's a close call for me between The Grove (which previously i've found a bit iffy) and the Twenty Ten at Celtic Manor - both fantastically kept greens!

Best I have played on this year were the Marquess at Woburn.

Honourable mentions too for Hankley Common, Sunningdale, Royal County Down and Bearwood Lakes.

The Kings Course at Gleaneagle, Chart Hills were the best I have seen them but agree with Mashie about West Hill, they wern't hugely fast but held the line really well. Oh, the Dukes at Woburn were good too

Only played a handful of other courses this year, all of which had cracking greens, Berkhamstead stands out for me, probably because I putted well there. But Sonning GC, Lincoln GC and Boston West all had greens in far better condition than my home course.

I think this has been a good year for Golf courses in the UK. Most courses I have played this year have been in great condition.

The couple that stand out for me was Durham City, Roclkliffe the day after the Trilby Tour final, considering the amount of people playing it the day before they were amazing also Silloth were really nice, just a shame the rest of the course had suffered with the dry summer we had.

best greens for me has to be the Dukes @ Woburn, although they wernt mega fast the roll was fantastic, a real pleasure to putt on.
