Just following on from another thread. Thinking of technique do you find you spend ages over analysing everything or just go with the flow and think about getting the basics right?

(Suppose this is similar to being more natural to the game or not??)

Let it flow!!

Can't expect anything too great unless I spent hours and days on the range and in the gym. I know generally what goes on out there with my swing and concentration but never worry to much about it.

over analysing everything
= practise

or just go with the flow and think about getting the basics right?
= course.

Works for me.

I only attended to my grip today, that was it.

Went round 6 over today, never even played the course before. I play great when I just step up, check ONE thing and hit the ball.

I've made a conscious decision this season, not to work on anything at all during the summer apart from remembering to get the basics right on every shot. Nothing specific , just to check things are in the right position and to play within myself not throwing the kitchen sink into it.

For me the time for change in swing issues is in the winter months.

The only thing that i would say i overanalyse is my grip and my alignment before every shot.....Then i just swing and let things happen naturally.....
On the green is a different matter though as lately iv been overanalysing everything......Its probably whats causing all the missed putts from short distances(3-5ft)

Good shooting RGDave.

Practice embeds the technique, once it becomes natural you don't have to think about it anymore... that'll take about 3 years of non-stop practice

I read an article recently, by (I think) a professor of psychology at a northern uni, that stated that though we have a lot of memory capacity, the brain can only cope with four simultaneous thought processes. If that's true, would it account for the majority not be able to recall what they were thinking when?

I have no idea what triggers the swing, possibly it's just that I've run out of backswing and holding it there is not an option.

I was well known for over analysing while on course to the detriment of my game. Thanks to the forum I'm trying to hit it and find it and just let what will be happen.

It is working although my comp scores don't relflect this. I leave the technique side of things until I'm on the range or practice ground. I was due to have some mental coaching earlier in the year with a guy who has worked with some European Tour pros but that has been delayed for a bit). I think this is the one area I can improve on without slipping into old habits.

I think its a matter of where your awareness is placed. I know golfers who run through a brief checklist and say a particular word when they're ready, whereas others sometimes feel the shot plays itself and they didn't consciously decide to play.

I agree with going to the range to get some practise in after a bad round so you can get some confidence but does anyone else feel they should only work on major swing changes during the off season months??

let it flow - the worst thing is trying to analyse during a round, then the best you can do is to find a flow to go with.

trying to analyse at a range doesn't work either, I need someone to watch over me.
