Not really because he puts loads of cards in and was completely embaressed today.

Played in the roll-up this morning and went out in a very sociable 4 ball. I stared poorly but got better and ended up shooting 79 gross for 39 points coming in 2nd.

2nd to the subject of the title!!

PLaying off 13 he started Par,Birdie,Birdie. So after 3 holes we had already given up hope of winning - 3 holes, 10 shots, 11 points. Me - 14 shots 4 points. So I'm 7 behind after 3!!!

Peter goes on to par the front 9 for 25 points. I turn with 18 so I've kept pace. He had a terrible back 9 only scoring another 19 for a 44 total gross 76. And he was only 3 inches from a birdie on the last.

Unreal. Don't you just hate it when that happens?

It can happen where all the luck and a blinding round can come from someone in this way, but off 13 its a bit suspicious to me.

knocking off that many strokes to me is almost criminal , having said that it is just as possible to be a genuine great day for the individual :D

I only play this format with a free spirit and for fun and company, Ive played too many times with a great score and not even made the top 5. :D

I recently played in a society day and shot a gross 5 over par for 43 points off a 12 handicap and was quite pleased with myself, I came 3rd!!!??? Guy who came 2nd also got 43 but had a better back 9, guy who won shot 49 points off a 22 handicap, oh how we laughed!
Now that IS banditry.

Our non-divisional stablefords are regularly won with 45+. Our Prizewinners compy in October was won with a nett 61. Off the whites. Good job I was injured and couldn't play - I'd have had to shoot level par gross to win.

In the 'Good old days', the best score won the best prize and a small prize was given to the best net to encourage the higher handicaps.
In 1993, a guy off 4 won the best gross, a very nice carriage clock and the best net winner won a weeks' holiday for 2 in the Raffles hotel in Singapore. I wont tell you his handicap
I'm sure Alchemy will agree with me but is there another sport where the better you are the harder it is to win?

People can use stats to prove anything.
I can only comment on personal experience.
I once played in a medal and shot 16 pars and 2 birdies.
I was chuffed to bits. Unfortunately it wasn't good enough to win diddly squat.
Is that right?

Totally agree Bob! Its far easier for a 20 handicapper to play 5 shots under than it is for a 4 handicapper to play 2 under. So you're gonna get beat every time.

You can make stats say what you want them to say. Take playing stats.
If you have a high GIR stat then you're going to take about 36 putts (ish) - you're going to make plenty of 2 putts , maybe a couple of singles and maybe a 3 putt or 2. But if your GIR is poor but you chip and putt then your putting stat is high - you're only going to putt say 25 times. Result is the same.

The phrase Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics didn't come about for nothing.
