What with "Americanism's" creeping into our everyday language, do you find yourself quipping in with the odd phrase in your golf?

Do you "Ace" a hole or "hole in one"? (If ever)
Is it a "Double Eagle" or "Albatross"?
Do you play "Fairway metals" or simply use "Woods"?

Personally I opt for the good old English terms but have heard a few "guys" at my club utter Americanisms from time to time. Just makes me wonder that they've been watching far too much PGA Golf!

Hole in one, albatross wood for me. I'm sure I drop the odd americanism into my conversations on the course and in the bar (and probably on here too) but I do try and maintain a certain sense of Britishness.

Has to be bunker - for most pros it ain't a trap of any kind!!

Yanks can be Aceholer's if they like - I'll fire a Hole-in-One thank you very much!!

Do they use a Driver Metal? Or a Putter Metal? Not content with trying to take over the world, they want to take over the English language too!! Makes me laugh when they talk about speaking English!!

I also shout "GET IN THE HOLE!" after every shot

He picked up birdies at nine, twelve and sixteen as he headed for the House at minus 6 with only 2 tough tee balls to play at the last 2 four pars.

He is 6 under par with 2 tricky par fours left to go after birdying the 9th, 12th and 16th. :)

After last night its deffo a " hole in one" for me

Anybody caught using any other terminology for any of the above should be hung, drawn and quatered ;)

I cant remember his words exactly but it was along the lines of

'If Ben Hogan was watching Parrys' swing, he'd throw up'
Craig Parry went on to win the event and he got a public apology from Miller. :D

All british terms from me - except on par fives when the 10 year olds are teeing off, I shout 'In the hole Tiger' and YEAH!!!!! NICE SHOT TIGER!
