We're looking to sell my V70 and the wifes Scenic and buy one car. We have a four and a two year old, must be able to take golf clubs, trolley etc, preferably sit three easily across the rear with two car seats in place, be frugal on fuel and spares/servicing, I don't like Multi coloured interiors, prefer all black interiors, not too big, have plenty of safety features, long service periods, would consider a seven seater, good torque and not some wheezy engine.

The wife likes the Honda CRV, I don't as the boot isn't actually that big, I'd like a newer V70, though the Mazda 5 is being considered. Galaxy would be good, but the wife doesn't like them and I've heard a lot of bad things about them. Budget, unknown as yet. But it won't be a new one.

Any ideas?

Hi mate,

not everyone's cup of tea but , my wife has a Vauxhall Zafira Club 1.8 16v, not had any probs with it at all. Lots of room for my 4 and 2 year old, plus can fit clubs and gear in boot with no issues.

Also you can lose the boot space and put up the other 2 seats to make it sit 7 , again these don't seem to be a after thought and are very easy to put up and take/fold down. (can be done in secs)

Hope all is well.

Midnight...

nothing wrong with zafiras!!

As midnight said.. lots of space, never had trouble with mine.. seats fold up and down very easily.. IMO a nice family car with plenty of space and it doesnt feel BIG like other 7 seaters!!

I forgot to mention in my criteria. Nothing too 'mummsy'.

...and you were considering a Galaxy :D

The budget really sets the type of car you are looking for, but I would probably plump for a VW Passat or Honda Accord estate.

We have a Citreon C5 estate at the mo, does what you need and has a very good boot capacity.
I have a 1600 diesel which goes forever on a tank, acceleration isn't great as you'd imagine but it does a job.

I've got a 1.6 Zafira - MASSIVELY underpowered! I'd say a 2.0 engine at the very least and probably diesel.

They suffer with clutch judder.

And.........

Mine tends to run quite lumpy. It's as if one of the injectors isn't firing correctly.

I love the interior though - it's very clever.

I just wish I hadn't listened to the salesman and opted for a larger diesel lump.

My Dad's got a VW Touran - 2.0 diesel - very good car.
