Annual Membership? Do you get anything free thrown it with it?

Nothing, the discounted bar prices (15%) are discounted from over-inflated prices so we still pay more than the local pubs down the road which is why we don't hang around as much as we used to!

Too many targets and bonus's for department heads to achieve which is a conflict of interest to the membership in offering us a greater service IMO

Are you at a members club or a proprietary course with a club attached ? If it's a members club then the membership needs to do something to sort out the problem at AGM time. Fair enough having targets, but bonuses (never heard of them at a members club) should only be payable upon successful completion of specific targets.

Your not far wrong there malek988, Ardglass is a spectecular course, the 2nd hole is always a personal favourite, I had to hit a driver the last time I played it as the wind was howling so much.

Only a 20% bar discount and i can sign on as meany single players as i like for £15.

But we get nothing free as such and TBH, i don't expect anything.

New members get a free lesson with our pro, we get 15% discount on bar prices but not food. Nothing free as such, then again I don't expect freebees. However I do think it's necessary to give new members incentives to join, that way we benefit by keeping annual subs down.

Members club, I have been told many times that our secretary is on a bonus and its believed and will come to light next week if our bar & restaurant steward/manager is on one as we are having an 'Open Forum' meeting as things have got to a stage where many members are not happy and if things are not addressed and or at least listened to, there could be an exodus of members leaving next year!

Very strange for a members course for the department managers to be on bonuses, Most f&b operations in golf clubs run at break even or just making a very small amount, They need to sort it out fast if that's the case as people wont stop for meals or drinks if they are prices out of the market.

The excuses I've heard first hand from the bar steward is he won't man or operate the halfway house (a bugbear of mine) as he believes it won't make money and will cost him (untested), he has told me personally he has hit all his targets in the past since joining us a few years ago and simply won't or is not interested in taking the risk. Personally I don't think its his decision alone to make and this will be raised at the forum.

If he is targeted with or without bonuses any expenditure to trial the halfway house correctly could be deferred for 12 months so he wasn't affected or it could be depreciated over a longer period so it had every chance of success, but to not give it a full opportunity because of personal targets and possible bonuses is wrong and is a conflict of interest and means the membership doesn't get something solely due to department heads who are lazy and no doubt hitting their targets far too easily!

2 free midweek greenfee vouchers..
€50 on your bar card

if your membership is paid before the end of the year ...

why they cant see this is a bad time of the year for membership fees is beyond me ...

Unlimited guest discounts, I can take 3 others for a round at Dunbar for £12 each. I also get a members day discount that allows me to take a group of players on, say 12 guys for the same discount. I even negotiated a GM forum day at Dunbar with roll and coffee and a two course meal for around £25, the forum turned it down.............That’s another story.
Bar card discount, can’t remember how much, I think 10%. Good quality club diary, not just with club events but with dates of majors and other information, real handy.

Robin,

Out of interest do you think the half way hut should be manned or automated, Also if manned what days should it be opened for business?

Well, apart form use of the course, clubhouse, locker room, snooker room, bar, dining room, car park, we don't get much. Reduced guest rates for up to 3 players at a time and reduced bar prices (10%) via our cashless card system and a members rate for lessons with the Pro.I suppose, the sun wind, rain, great views from the course, course wild life etc are free... ;)

You looking for a USP Dodger ;)

That sounds like my place but a bit more basic (no locker room or snooker room). Although we do get the Surrey County Card thrown in - haven't shown my Mrs the £1451 price tag.

I should add - free tips and advice from a PGA pro - plus good deals on gear. Nice lassies serving in the bar and dining room. Cracking good home-made food. Good craic and conviviality in the clubhouse and a genuine love and interest in golf and it's traditions in the members. Oh yes - we have a cracking good course (though I would say that).
