I'll be playing this format next week. I've never heard of it so tried to google it but I found only conflicting definitions.

It looks like each player drives but then it's not clear if you only play the best ball (alternate shots) or you swap balls. The former makes more sense to me.

Also, is there a limit to the number of better drives that one can have? I'm playing with a lady so my ball is likely to be the best one off the tee quite often. Excluding the oob on the right at the 13th...

One american golf forum says that a player can't have more than 12 better balls.
 
Not sure about the first bit, but you may be surprised to find that you don't want to take your drive too often. Reason being, if the lady is anything like my mixed pairs partner, then you'll be taking hers. Reason being she hits it straight and long enough to give us (i.e. me) a shot into every par 4 and most par 5's (albeit 3 wood or hybrid), so we often take hers.

See what kind of driver she is, and then make your decision based on that, not based on the fact she's a woman!
 
Or second shot greensome. you both drive you hit her drive she hits yours you then make your mind up which ball to finish the hole with.
