Played with a guy in the monthly medal yesterday who shot 67 (par69). he has a -1 handicap so im sure its normal enough for him but was great to witness never the less.

His playing partner joined the club last summer with a handicap of 21 and is down to 11 already. Just shows that playing with good players can do for your game...

I played like a bit of a tool tho, gross 99 for a net 78 :(
But first time with the new irons so hopefully will be bette next week.

Yes, it's always good to see how the game should be played. Sometimes it's also nice to see that cat1's can make a pigs ear of it as well, although to a lesser extent than the rest of us.

What clubs did you end up getting?

Really enjoyed seing how consistent he was. Everything was pin high and drives were long as hell and mostly straight.

Got a set of nike slingshot irons. Hit a few decent shots with them yesterday but quite a few low draw (read hook). Hit the range this week and hopefully get used ot them for the weekend.

Bit raging the forum was down yesterday as i was looking advice on Taylormade R9 driver. As in whether its suitable for higher handicaps..ordered it anyway so hope it is lol!!

Had the same experience yesterday - guy I played with used to be pro but is now back to amateur status playing off 3. He found his form in style and shot a 68 (par 70) with a double thrown in too! Great to see him tearing it up but the real standout was his shortgame. Anything off the green was put to within inches. Unfortunately, he didn't win lowest gross

A young guy off 6 shot a gross 66. A hole-in-one helped his cause. Talk about a dream round!!!

And there was me happy with my 87 :o :D

yeah, really shows you the importance in short game. think he was down in 2 basically everytime from <100yds. Im over the moon to be down in 3...

Achilles - see you have the driver ive ordered. How do you find it? do you adjust it often??

I played with a guy (+2 handicap) who had a gross 64 (nett 66) on Silloth on Solway (par 72), and a pro who had a 65 at Wentworth West Course off the tournament tees.

I absolutely love it. Had it for about 18 months now and have no intention to change it. In terms of adjustment, I've not changed the setting for a year or so...I'd recommend a good play around with the options and obviously see what works best for you. Neutral upright works for me. Great driver and it has massively helped my game - hope it works for you too! :)
