No thanks.
I don't want to be connected to "the cloud" for my navigation.
It is possible to have a comprehensive system that works well.
I've used them.

It's fine just cover your car in foil.

They make built in sat nav obsolete. You have to constantly update sat nav, at a cost after 3 years normally

Not with Google or Waze it's the whole idea

Tech really isn't scary.

Toyota Yaris, also 2nd hand, 6+ years.

I drive em until they are too expensive to repair.

Smartphone apps do not make built-in SatNav obsolete.

I don't mind the updating.

I've been using "tech" since 1971, starting with FORTRAN and APL on an IBM 360 mainframe, and if "tech" doesn't scare you at least a little you're either high, or not paying enough attention.

What have you got to hide that your so worried about? If tech knows more about you what exactly is it going to do? Tailer adverts to you? Meh

Listen to my conversations? Meh got nothing to hide . Would be very boring for them

Updating costs where as using tech is something you have anyways and it updates automatically

Really not a big deal

My 1st car was a Toyota Corolla. Bloke at work got it at auction for me and brought it into work for me on the Friday. Drove it home and on the Saturday went to Ikea. On the way back got to red lights and stopped. As lights went green someone ploughed right through the side of me, spun me 360. Fortunately was outside a Rangers pub on Old Firm day so plenty of police witnesses.
Went to work on the Monday, bloke who got me the car popped into my lab and asked me how it was running........I said any chance of getting me another??

Also need to have the phone with you at all times plus the controls are far more fiddly plus it offers fewer fingertip options than built in systems.

Much be a generation thing, because who doesn't have their phone with them? That's the idea of it.

Voice controlled with all the smart systems, or touch screen

I find just start the route on your phone then plug it in and your away

Whilst listening to a podcast via your phone you downloaded earlier

You are, of course, correct; it is a generation thing.

My generation view phones as a means of communication and are not slaves to them.

Not so much slaves to them as such an useful tool they help with everyday life

My Google maps has saved me so much time avoiding traffic on way to work with free live traffic updates and suggested diversions to avoid them

Whilst listening to Rick shiels or the Dave berry podcast

WhatsApp one of the most useful things invented. Our entire rooms coverage is run via WhatsApp any overtime goes out via it and covered in seconds

Very useful in all fields.

I don't have to commute, I am retired and when I did, into central Birmingham, I knew better diversions than Google or my sat nav ever could suggest.

As for listening to podcasts, well I have never yet found one that retained my interest for longer than 5 minutes.

Google maps may work for you but they certainly aren't for everyone.

It's not just knowing them now it's knowing what route is busier with the live traffic

Especially when there are 2 routes home useful to know if main one blocked before you go past the back up one

My sat nav and radio already provide that facility.

There seems to be a broad pattern.

Cheap piece of second hand crap
Decent condition in a more sensible car
Something cooler but with too small an engine to match the looks
Something nice and quick (peak car ownership)
(Gets married)
Something sensible and practical that can carry gold clubs without taking the driver out
(Has kids)
Estate or People carrier x 2 or 3
(Kids leave home)
Middle age crisis car
Late middle age sensible car again
Motorised shopping trolley
