I'm for Guns N Roses, before the facelift.

I'm a dance convert from my younger days but even then liked belting out 'welcome to the jungle' (apparently my theme tune since I played it so much) or 'november rain'

nothing wrong with AC/DC though, I've got their complete discography

Quite like AC/DC but feel they reached their sell by date around the time Bon Scott died.

My favourites ( I suppose you would lump them all into the classic rock genre ) are :

The Who
Thin Lizzy
Led Zep
SAHB
Lynyrd Skynyrd
The Stones

AC/DC are certainly up there, I've seen them 20+ times over the years & have to say I preferred Bon Scott both on record & live to Brian Johnson (showing my age now)Angus is not as manic nowaways in concert although let's face it, he is getting on a bit. Best Live band ever would have to be Thin Lizzy, I can remember seeing them 7 nights on the trot in the 70's although it was only about a fiver a ticket then. Also went to see them last month & they are still fantastic live although obviously not the same without the great Mr Lynott.

I saw that at the Monsters of Rock, second year and they were so bad we left. Must admit the sound quality at the festival was awful, and they actually sounded better from the car park. Blue Oyster Cult only played for about half an hour, and gave up.

70's and early 80's Rock mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I was there with Fragger!!
We were so far away we couldn't hear a thing. Ask Fragger aout his trainer......

BOC played at the Dunstable Queensway a couple of nights before Donnington as a warm-up. Albert Bouchard (the drummer) was late for the gig so the Drum Tech took over. Albie turns up and gets fired. In the car park after we see him trying to force a fence post into the radiator of the car that broke down, making him late and costing him the gig. He was not a happy bunny.

Rawk'n'Rolllllllllll...............

Hope you didn't get hit by the flying plastic bottles, that were not filled with lemonade. :D

Ties in nicely with the "Ask Fragger" above.... As he's not here I'll tell you a story.

Fragger had been cutting the grass at the local cricket ground on a ride-on mower. Somehow he managed to chop the top of one of his fingers off while clearing grass from the cutters. Anyway a week later and we're at Donnington and he's got his arm in a sling to protect said finger. Fragger goes into the crowd to find some mates just as the bottle fight starts. One of the aforementioned bottles of dubious substances lands close to him. Now Fragger being Fragger, he doesn't pick it up and throw it - oh no he has to kick it. Sadly he gets nudged as he's in mid-kick, misses the bottle but his trainer flies off. It was last seen being thrown from one end of the crowd to the other....

An hour later he comes back to find us. Arm in a sling and a plastic bag tied around his foot - it was lashing down. I laughed nearly as much as when he fell in the ditch a couple of weeks ago. Trouble was I had to lend him my trainer so he could drive home....

Brilliant, my sides are aching. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

AC/DC ....you're out of your tree!!

Oasis are better.

My tree is perfectly inhabitable, thank you. Led Zep: yup, no quarrels there. Oasis: 2 (the first 2) albums were fantastic. After that: less impressive and they can't blame death by vomiting in a car as a reason.

Therefore your argument is invalid.

I like AC/DC but it is hardly musical genius.

Compare to the likes of Muse, 30 Seconds To Mars, & Biffy Clyro, AC/DC arent in the same league in terms of technical skill and I do find AC/DC stuff to be a tad repetative, still like it though.

Is it all about technical skill ? If so, then Rush would be the best band in the world. Some great bands get by without great technical skill (and never sell any records) whereas people who can't sing and can't write songs top the charts.

There's sonething wrong somewhere. My original post was made in the spur of the moment 'cos Ac/DC (with Bon Scott) still sends a tingle down the spine. Will today's current crop of pop superstars have 30 years staying power ?

For anyone who posted to say they like band X better than ACDC: good on you, keep the passion for real music going.

IMurg: you have ruined my mental image of Fragger. I always imagined him as a countrified gent with a monocle dressed in jodpurs charging £500/hour to Lords with broken PCs.

AC/DC are good but too repetitive, they've made the same (admittedly good) album for the last 30 years but after a few beers they're awesome.

I've got a fairly broad and eclectic range of musical tastes but I'd suggest that Kiss, The Wildhearts and probably The Who are in my top 5 bands of all time.
