50 Killed in Orlando nightclub.

And a Turkish newspaper reports it and headlines it as a mass killing at a nightclub "where perverts go", and our government wants to let 1.5m Turks in with the view of them being in the EU within a couple of years with freedom of movement, I don't think so, Vote Leave.

No, not the ones that are being used in these horrific shootings, I do not. As far as I am aware the vast majority of us shootings are not being done by the criminal underworld, but by people with, many would argue, frighteningly easy access to guns that can slay lots of people very quickly.

Thats a very naive consideration. Just reflect on the Paris attacks, there are more kalishnakofps in this World that you can shake a stick at.

Absolutely horrendous, thoughts and prayers go out to all the victims and their family and friends.

Anyone with an ounce of sense can see that the stupid gun laws in the U.S. makes this sort of thing more likely to happen.

We are not talking about coordinated terrorist attacks in Paris, as I expect terrorists organisations do have easy access to these types of guns, it's kind of in the job description. We are talking about the ever increasing number of mass shootings in the US perpetrated by lone gunmen who have easy access to assault weapons.

I'm pretty depressed about the world we live in today. So much ignorance, intolerance and hatred. Words fail me.

Yup, and it's only getting worse stoked by an increasing number of people in positions in power who have a vested interest in perpetrating this hatred. If Trump gets in then god help us. Nuclear bunker time.

Interesting you have used this thread to peddle your political views.
Also interesting that you think segregation is the best way to move us forward as a planet.
Also fairly interesting that your point on "letting in 1.5 million Turks in with a view of them being in the EU" is completely incorrect and fails spectacularly to understand what that particular news item is actually about, with even suggestions is it completely untrue.

Still, you carry on.

I will, thanks!

Are you even reading the links you are posting?

For starters, the government have said it isn't true.

May and Hammond have hit back at the claims saying the published exerts were "selectively leaked quotes" that had been used "to give a completely false impression that the UK is considering granting visa liberalisation to some Turkish citizens".

But putting that aside, as you know sometimes governments lie to protect their own interests, the actual supposed leaked memo states the agreement applies only to countries which are members of the Schengen common visa area: i.e. Turks will still require visas for the UK, but we 'may' extend it and possibly allow the same privilege to 1.5 million special passport holders, i.e. those that would have got in anyway via the visa application process. There are so many what, ifs and maybes in that it's really an odd thing to be making a decision on.

I won't say anymore on it in this thread as it really isn't the place. Still not sure why you bought it up. You could always have a read of this to soften some of your concerns on Turkey though.

[h=1]AQ | Is Turkey going to join the EU?[/h]
By Matthew Holehouse, Brussels Correspondent

[h=3]What does the Government say?[/h]
Backing Turkey’s accession as a means of encouraging reforms and “anchoring” the predominantly Muslim country in the Western order is Britain’s long-standing policy. Visiting six years ago, David Cameron declared it was wrong that Turkey, a Nato member, was asked to “guard the camp but not allowed to sit in the tent”. However, the Prime Minster has recently insisted membership is “not remotely on the cards”.

[h=3]Surely the Prime Minister is saying this to prevent a Leave vote?[/h]
He undoubtably is. But few believe Turkey will be joining for several decades. Turkey and Brussels first agreed to discuss membership in 1963. Ankara applied for EE membership in 1987, and it was given EU candidate status in 1999. Before joining, a state must fulfil convergence reforms in 35 chapters, covering the full sweep of EU law. So far, 14 have been opened and just one, on science and research, provisionally closed. Progress is painfully slow.

[h=3]Yet isn't the EU going to speed up accession?[/h]
Officially, yes. As a sweetener in the €6billion “dirty deal” to halt the migrant crisis, EU leaders agreed in March 2016 to “re-energise” accession talks. But this is going through the motions. President Erdogan’s increasingly erratic and authoritarian conduct, including dismissing his EU-friendly prime minister and threatening to flood Europe with refugees, has alarmed some European leaders.

[h=3]Could David Cameron stop it?[/h]
Yes. Any final decision would require consensus among the leaders of all 28 EU member states. They could insist on clauses delaying the right of free movement for many years, or until certain economic criteria are met. Parties opposed to Muslim immigration are surging across Europe, particularly in the former Soviet bloc, meaning other prime ministers could come under intense pressure to use their veto. In Britain, accession would require ratification by an Act of Parliament, meaning MPs could torpedo the treaty.

This.

How some people can use this as a "positive" for leaving the EU is unbelievable.

Agreed - I don't think I can put into words how sad it all makes me feel how someone can just gun down that many people

But the earlier post was highlighting the bigoted mainstream media coverage that this tragic attack got in a country that we, and the other EU member states, seem to be pandering to and welcoming as future EU members. What sort of Union will that bring upon us.

Thats the reason why, in my view, it was a valid post to this thread.
