It's been labelled as terrorism by the police but I'm not sure how much is due to what they know happened and how much is due to the killer being a Muslim of Afghan descent.

I just despair at the availability of firearms in America.
The pro-gun lobby, whose mantra "the only thing that will stop gun-related atrocities is more guns", is so chillingly flawed as to be laughable, if its consequences were not so devastating to the hundreds of innocent victims who've paid the price for this stupid madness.

Yes they could, however all you have to do in America is walk into a store and buy one. In other (sensible) countries it tends to be a little trickier.

I think it wold be hard to find a semi automatic in this country, unless you had some real good connections.
The guy in Florida reportedly had an AR-15 semi automatic rifle. You could pick one of those up at any gun fair in the US and not have to answer to anyone, where in the UK could you get one without extremely stringent checks?
As for other places in the world, where there's a will there's a way.

Absolutely.
The key difference is he was using, amongst other things, an assault rifle. These things are military grade, powerful and are absolutely lethal.
These are also widely available in America.
So yes you could get a hand gun anywhere in the world, but an assault rifle wouldn't be so easy IMO.

No, not the ones that are being used in these horrific shootings, I do not. As far as I am aware the vast majority of us shootings are not being done by the criminal underworld, but by people with, many would argue, frighteningly easy access to guns that can slay lots of people very quickly.

Tragic and will make more Americans look inwards and put more votes Trumps way. He's already stoking the fire and has claimed since the event he is right about islamic terrorists.
Will there ever be a ban on firearms in the US. It's their "constitutional right" and I can't see the NRA or the average American ever going for this. And so the madness continues. How many more school shootings and this type of shooting in a nightclub will there be

As an update to this it seems as though the killer called 911 before the attack and pledged allegiance to ISIS.

The gunman's father also told US media the attack may have been triggered by the sight of a gay couple kissing in Miami, adding that it had "nothing to do with religion".

The thing is some people do not even like men and women kissing in public.
