Slightly complicated story. I'm off over Xmas but my girlfriend has to work. It's also her birthday and she has to work in Burnley over the 29th and 30th December. I've volunteered to stay over with her but will be at a loose end over those two days during the day. So I thought I'd post here and see if anyone fancied a game?

Happy to travel a fair distance (nothing else to do!). I appreciate that weather may get in the way in the end but just wondered if there were any takers!

THE WEATHER HERE IN BURNLEY IS AS BAD AS ANYWHERE AT THE MOMENT. THE WEATHER REPORTS SAY THAT IT MAY START TO THAW ON BOXING DAY,BUT I WOULDN'T HOLD MY BREATH. LIVERPOOL AREA SEEMS THE PLACE TO PLAY OVER THE FESTIVE PERIOD. IF YOU CANT PLAY GOLF ,THERES PLENTY OF GOOD BOOZERS IN BURNLEY. MERRY CHRISTMAS.

I'm not holding my breath that's for sure! I'm just hoping that it will thaw so our club comp on 27th can go ahead but it's pretty doubtful.

If it does improve, can you recommend anywhere or do you fancy a game!

If the weather bucks up and your'e able to play, there are a couple of municipals,Towneley park in Burnley which i am a member of and Marsden Park in Nelson. Both priced about £12 in winter. Last month ,two of us went to Skipton which is about twenty miles N.E of Burnley and used a two 4 one voucher.I would love to go back there. I'll keep an eye on the conditions and hope we have a quick thaw. I will keep you informed.

That sounds good. Just started to rain here so some hope of golf over Xmas/New Year now. Fingers firmly crossed.

I think I've got some 2-4-1 vouchers somewhere and would be up for any course. Keep me posted and hopefully we can get a game in.

it has rained most of today, and most of the snow has gone from the fairways,so i will ring up in the morning to see if the course is playable.I'll leave feedback tomorrow afternoon.

Went up at 9.00 am to be told the course is closed. The greens still have a covering due to a heavy frost last night. Ended up going down my local rec,hit about 50 balls then came home with 35. I think the lost balls were the ones hit out of frustration at not being able to get on the course. Will try again tomorrow. The sun is shining at the moment.

Still closed this morning so i went to the range in Great Harwood. It just felt good to swing the clubs. If you're still looking for something to do, you could get to the range in Harwood. £4.50 for a full basket, open till 1600. Its called Lee Valley golf range.

Ended up at Play Golf in Manchester. Had some shopping to do for the girlfriend's birthday. Two birds, one stone etc.

It was really good to swing a club again.

Thanks for looking into it all. We'll try again next time I'm over if you're free!

At least you managed to swing some clubs. Just drop a thread in the forum and weather permitting we'll sort out a game. I have some family living in Goole,Hull so next time I'm over I'll drop a PM and maybe play Beverley. I spent some time in Beverley when I was in the Army .
