At last a balanced article on the BBC website today, about the future of the DP World Tour….a read of the top 20 ‘best regarded’ comments would be good for a couple of the ‘ ‘status quo’ / ‘PGA Tour dominance is great for golf and for golf fans and for the European Tour, and it’s only Liv that’s evil’ cohort on here 🙄

Ok I have read that 3 times now and still struggling to understand it ?

What’s the top 20 best regarded comments ?

Which article ?

I don’t recall many saying PGAT dominance is good for the game

Assume it is this article

When going to comments there are different filters, one is 'highlest rated', that would be my guess

Ah right

Looks like it’s the standard issues that have been raised over the last 30 years since the best European golfers have left to go to the US

It’s been happening for years for - money , exposure and entry into the majors.

unfortunately for the ET most of the events are during the work day for us there isn’t a big rush from many companies to throw millions at golf events

ET tried to chase the money years ago and now it needs the PGAT to help it out. Players jumped to the US when it became easier to travel there

Highest rated / best regarded 🤷🏻‍♂️

It’s not going to be Latest, First, or lowest rated is it?!🤪

There aren’t many BBC golf articles that talk about the future of the European Tour, and don’t just cheerlead for Woods or McIlroy, so it isn’t hard to figure it out which one it was

Wells Fargo. With the top two from the "PGA Tour (USA) world rankings" 😉 both missing, that puts Rory as the pretty clear favourite.
It is a track he likes, be interesting to see how he does as will be lots of eyes on him after his break.
Have a feeling he'll be typically candid on his reasons.

Would have thought when talking about an article it would prob be best placed to actually post a link to it 🤷‍♂️

And the comments are supposed to highlight what ? It’s just readers making comments on their opinion - no different to here.

Aren’t the PGA tour events ‘during the work day’ for their main target audience i.e. Americans?

Yeah fair shout - also when looking at the ET events there are a lot of them early mornings etc

It seems it’s a chicken and egg scenario

The sponsers etc will pay up for the events if they have the big players but the only way the big players will play is if they have the big prize funds

Where the players base themselves most of the time helps as well - in the US it’s normally around Florida then it’s decent travel for the players

Everyone knows that the PGAT is the main tour and has been that way for years - 3 of the majors are also in the US and it helps players to enter them by being on the PGAT

Ultimately the big European players maybe need to take responsibility for the issues as well - the last two big young Europeans to come through - Rahm and Hovland , both came through the US System

Not sure what’s the answer.

A shake-up of the status quo perhaps?

Agree it is a largely self fulfilling closed loop. In the spirit of debate, Fitzpatrick likely bucked the trend (left US college after a short spell) and many would put him ahead of Hovland for now.
I find it tricky to 'blame' the European players, when the whole system is based around being US based to be successful.
You mentioned
the only way the big players will play is if they have the big prize funds
Although it may seem unthinkable right now, do wonder if over time the current majors lose some draw after a period of time where not being the big(gest) prize funds.
Right now their appeal is very high for many as the coming together of a fractured game.

It become more US Based to be more successful when the events over there started to offer more money and more security. It prob started last 90’s and then early 00’s the big Europeans started to leave to grab those fortunes.

The players are as much to blame as anyone - but it’s been very hard for anyone in UK and Europe to provide big levels of sponsorships for golf events

As for the majors - they transcend any prize money

There appeal is the major itself - its imo got nothing to do with fractures of the game etc - they are above any tour.

If the LIV players didn’t play in them then imo it wouldn’t make a difference to their appeal

Looks like Tiger is resigned to his career being practically over with the news that La Cava is picking up Cantlay's bag.
