Evening,

Anyone planning on going to the Open this year? Me and and a couple of mates are planning a trip down to civilisation for the week. Cant wait as I have never been to a pro tournament before. We are planning to try a play a course or 2 as well so any recommendations would be gratefully received.

Cheers

Probably won't be going up this year but its really good to see the players and swings up close and in real life. You really don't get the full effect from th TV.

I suggest if you can you go up on the practise day aswell if you can, much more relaxed and very few sepctators around. The pros are friendly enough in the most part aswell as the caddies.

Will be going to the PGA Champs at wentworth but only for the practise day probably. Looking forward to walking te course and seeing all the changes up there.

Have fun when you go.

Looking forward to going to Wentworth as well on the practice day (maybe even catch up with the GM crowd at some juncture) but to be honest an Open has enver appealed. Way too many crowds to make watching pleasurable and access is always a nightmare. I prefer to watch the Open on TV (along with the languid tones of Peter Alliss)

I am going to the promised land for the week and have just purchased my weeks pass off the R&A site.

If your going book up now for everything be it tents,b&b (doubt you'll get in now) or golf.Loads of decent courses to play around but ALL will be jammed for the week.

I'll be there for one practice day at least and minimum one championship day.
If anyone's in the area and fancies a game, let me know and I'll see if I can arrange something.

Will very likely go one day. Went final day in 2005 and really enoyed it. I know what Homer means about watching on tv but St Andrews does have a very special atmos when it's Open time. I would say do it at least once.
You can watch the pros from as little as 3 or 4 yards away if you stand behind a tee, good to see what they do and what the caddie say - rhythm and tempo is what it's all about, nobody lashes it!

Yea the Open is too far for me unfortunately, and I don't have the time / money / schedule to allow a short stay away. As with others I'm hoping to get my tournament attendance fix from Wentworth again, having been on the Sunday the last two years. Seeing the way the pros strike the ball with the naked eye can not be rivaled by television- Ever. The flight of their drives, particularly players like Quiros, is really something to behold when you are able to see it against the full range of dimensions available to the human eye. It just seems to go, and then go some more.

Cheers Steve, all going well I'll be taking you up on that.
Opens at Goswick this year, singles May 2nd £15 and 4BBB 10th July £25 a pair both comps fill up quickly. If them dates don't suit I'll get you down for a game.
