Sotogrande

As always it depends where you're playing, which courses you are playing and what you are looking for.

Hotels are ok, Almenara is quite nice although the golf course there is only ok.

The area has most of the best courses on the Costa del Sol - Valderama, Sotogrande, San Roque Old and La Reserva are all great courses.
La Canada, San Roque new, Almenara (as said) are ok but not bucket list. Alcadeisa down the road is good.

Not an area for nightlife particularly but some good restaurants, it is quite an upmarket area.

Pro is organising a week golf holiday trip to this venue. Anyone played it and what are the facilities like ?

When you say venue, do you mean Sotogrande golf course? Or Sotogrande estate?

Building on D-S comments above, Sotogrande golf course is a very nice course with excellent facilities that has hosted the Spanish Open, but the Sotogrande estate is surrounded by loads of high quality courses like Valderrama which are also good enough to have hosted the European Tour down the years. And 20 minutes away is Finca Cortesin which is another outstanding course.

If I went back there I'd be happy to stay at Almenara hotel again, but I wasn't a fan of the house courses.

Im with D-S that the area is upmarket Sotogrande, San Roque Old and La Reserva are very nice, worth popping over to Valderama just to look at he driving range and buy something from the shop (if security let you in, they can be funny buggers)
Have a great time
