13.7 to 6 by end of year?!

Thanks for all the thoughts chaps. I didn’t have a proper handicap till I got a 15 at the club this year. I was working off my golfshot account previously and started the year off 16.
I went down to 12 before that but have crept up because I forgot how to drive the ball straight!
I feel im back to 12 level now and my scrambling and sand saves have improved massively in the last few months. This will be the key area to me dropping down.

As for the questions:

What age are you..35

How long have you been playing..8 years, 3 properley and last year lots.

What was your first HC.. 15 proper HC but played to what me and my mates worked out before that!

How often do you play.. once a week and range 1-2 times a week. Chipping practise at home and in the summer I practice pitching /chipping. Also hit air flow (and such like) balls at home.

Do you just play or do you practice as well.. oh yes!

Will be joining a club immenently and plan to play in comps and use all the practise facilities...
Maybe I will need to hand in lots & lots of cards to get it down this low?

Good luck with the quest i tried to get down to 8 last year , started at 9.2 between the ups n downs i ended on 9.1, thing is in medals & qualifiers & that you will be playing off the back tees alot & can be harder to get cut ..

In saying that it was a lazy year for me practice wise , i put nothing in so got feck all back , cept a couple of lucky wins..

My aim this year is again 8 or hopefuly 7 with a bit of work .. best of luck with it anyhow

Now I'm really confused.

Do you have a club handicap now, or not? you started by saying you have a handicap in the OP, then said you had 15 at the club, then said you will be joining a club, 13.7 ?? play off 12 ??

If you were already a club member and got 15 then you should be transferring that handicap. If your 15 did not come from a club then you will have to complete and hand in 3 cards to get a handicap.

Having seen the previous comments now I would doubt down to 6 is achievable unless you change your practice routine by about 300%

I took up golf in 2000 but didn't join a club or play properly untill 2002.I put 3 handicap cards in,and was given a 19 handicap.I played 3 times a week, and sometimes more in the summer months, but i didn't practice other than hitting a small basket of balls before playing.I was down to 6 after 16 months, and then 5, 7 weeks later.
You will hit "plateaus" and it will be difficult to get past them without making significant improvements, and take it from me,the difference from 14 to 6 is night and day,in fact the difference from 14 to 10 is huge, and each step gets prgressively harder.
Best of luck though.

Well my handicap is at the moment a bit vague. I had to hand in 3 cards so I did and they were wht I thought my most average ones!
I was given 15 although I expected it to be 14 (SS69?) that was in about May.
I have had better rounds since (3 over etc.) and not bothered handing any in as the club is just a public crown course with naff all organisation or competitions. I will however be joining a proper club shortly.
Not sure what I will be given at the new club. 13.4 is now my current hadicap from golfshot app since my weekend round.

I'm even more confused now. Were you awarded an official CONGU handicap in May? - and handicaps from golfshot app are not proper handicaps.

Yes, the club pro signed the certificate.
I know golfshot is not a proper one! I have nowt else to go by as I have played about 25 rounds since at different courses! I have trouble with cards as they all need signing off by certified players and I don't play with any at the moment!
Sorry it's the best I can do with my resources! Still I will give the handicap a darn good crack to get down to 6...

Good luck in your quest, but if you have been a member of a club in the last six months then your new club shoud be taking that handicap from there, so you would be starting from 15.

If you were playing off the whites in proper comps then I could see you maybe getting down to 10.....6, canny see it.

In my favour currently my up and down scrambling is getting much much better.
I do hit a long way. So I really feel I can use a lot of wedges into par 4's and a lot of Par 5's I find I am hitting irons into the greens so I give myself good birdie and eagle chances quite often.
Yes your probably right playing off white tees in comps may be harder and I will probably need to hand in some silly low score cards to get cut in time. Thats If I score low enough.
I've spent the last 2 months working on my tee shot variations. Putting the ball in good positions rather than in the woods with a driver and scuppering a par (don't we all!)
