I was reading a post earlier where it said someone carded a 27 at a hole and it got me thinking of my Kevin Na moment (carded a 16 at the par 4, 9th at the Valero Open in texas last year) as i like to call it.

I was playing in an open at the Shotts Golf Club near Glasgow in scotland.
I was standing on the par 3 16th with 5 shots to play with to get a cut.

Par 3, 222 Yards to the centre, large bunker at 175 yards carry and small bunkers left and right of the mouth of the green. all down the left and right (if you go miles off target) is trees and overgrown grasses waist height, wouldnt venture in for fear of meeting a bear or some other wild creature.

Took out my 4 iron and hit it sweet as a nut took a huge bounce off the front of the green and dissapeared over the back, guy i was playing with was a memeber and gave the sharp intake and said theres not much room before the trees at the back. i would hit a provisional, so i did.
3 off the tee huge slice and into the trees on the right not a problem says i.
5 Off the tee same as first into the trees into the right.
7 off the tee didnt go left thankfully however was a huge hook into the trees on the left.
9 off the tee went into the right hand bunker
10th Shot i bladed and it shot into the trees and bushes at the back (lost)
by this time the guys i was playing with were nearly wetting themselves however out of respect for a non memeber were valiantly trying to keep it to themselves.

12th Shot
drop in the bunker however got it out and rolled off the back of the green
13th Shot bladed it back across the green into the bunker i just got out of.
i was losing the will to live by this time and seriously considered picking it up
14th shot popped out of the bunker to three feet.
15th Shot missed the three footer.
16th shot tap in for an um...er well a lot over par!!!

having searched for my balls not one could be found....except when i walked to the path through the trees to the 17th there it was sitting pretty my first, with a shot to the edge of the bunker and then a chip and putt chance....i was gutted.

The worst of it was that i went birdie, birdie on the last two holes and finished +3 for my handicap and made the buffer. (actually got a cut on the stablefored adjustment)

if i had taken even a 9 at the par 3 i would have won the handicap prize.

That was my horror story, i can laugh about it now but at the time boy did it hurt.

anyone got a Kevin Na moment they want to get off their chest!

I still have the card from a par 4 11, which features my counting notes that reads 'Tee, Hack, Hack, OOB, -, Bad, Bad, Green' at which point I 3-putted for an 11.

could you not have looked for your first even after taking 9 off the tee? surely because the first provisional was carved right, the others are follow on provisionals?!

Long 3rd, par 4
Short slice right into knee high grass (The Wheat)
Provisional in case of lost ball was dreadful, so had a cursory look for 1st ball and found it.
2nd Still in Wheat
3rd still in wheat
......
8th Finally out of wheat onto fairway.
9th topped
10th laid up short of bunkers
11th missed green
12th chipped on
13th single putt into hole, to avoid a 14.
Cos no one wants a 14 on their card.

Rest of round very steady until on 14th hole playing partner checked her previous score with me as "6 for 2"

What? It's Stableford? I was playing medal!!!

Got hcp cut as rest of round was pretty nice!

Only later did it occur to me that since I found my original ball in wheat, my rubbish provisonal was no longer relevant and i could have declared unplayable and gone back tee for another chance to reach fairway for a measly 3 rather than 8

Not as bad as those but my bro in law got to the 18th green for 2 (par 4) at the weekend. He proclaimed he would show me how to play this hole! The. Four putted for a 6. I sliced my drive chipped onto the fairway duffed my first approach, hit my second to 20ft and two putted for 6.

I'd take my approach all day over a 4 putt

May medal this year, 3rd hole par 4 dog leg left SI3.

Topped a 4 iron tight up behind a fir tree, no stance sostupidly tried to play back-handed, hit another tree, chipped out sideways, chipped to the corner, sliced a mid iron into a copse and couldn't find it, went back and played another into the greenside bunker, thinned it over the back of the green into the cabbage, took 2 to get out, chipped on and 2 putted for a 12 :o

could you not have looked for your first even after taking 9 off the tee? surely because the first provisional was carved right, the others are follow on provisionals?!

Maybe i didnt explain properly, first shot ended in the trees behind the green (must have hit something as ultimately ended around 30 feet to the left on the path to the 17th) we didnt look there as never in our wildest dreams did i think it would go there, all the rest we looked for but couldnt find so it was 9 off the tee.

had i found the first who knows what would have happened.

When Smiffy goes off his game it's a sight to behold.... however, it's only when he shouts "Blob!" on his downswing you know he's REALLY lost it! :D
