Following on from the Best Pro shots of the year what was yours, here's mine

Best
17th St Andrews Old course flop over the Road Hole bunker from a tight lie to 3ft and a holed putt for a 4

11th Scotscraig holed a 3 wood from 215 into a strong wind for an eagle 2

Worst
1st Machrihanish smacked my drive OB,this fairway is miles wider than the 1st/18th at St Andrews :o

18th St Andrews Old course after the great 4 on the 17th i nearly knocked it OB with a big hook luckily it stopped where the grandstands had been for The Open :o

Too many in the worse category to be honest but I guess shanking and topping it for a whole round at Maidenhead is too many to count so I'll narrow it down to the tee shot at 15 when my resistance had crumbled and it barely went 10 yards on the ground and I was lucky to make any sort of contact. My opening tee shot had split the fairway and gone about 230 with a 3 wood (good for me). I followed it with a shanked 9 iron approach and never recovered.

Best? My tee shot at the 2nd at Goswick on day 2 of the GM meet....a nice wee rip draw 6 iron to 2 feet to take the nearest the pin.You canny hide talent. ;)

Worst? Wouldn't know where to start!

I guess my best was on a bright sunny day at my home (AVGC) on the par 3 2nd. I was playing with my Mother and Father in law and my wife was along for the walk. I hit my tee shot a little long and a little right and had a down hill chip to the green. Hit the shot high in the air to try and make it stop faster and it slammed in the hole no bounce. The crowd went wild. My wife and mother in law were over the moon, my father in law was gutted and with a smile pointed out how far past it would have gone if it had not gone in, all I could say was "but it did".

Later that day I hit my longest ever drive. My mother in law said I was strutting like a cock.... I was.

Edit: oh worst... could be so many but must have been a shank or 20 a few weeks back.

best, 7th at Blairgowrie Lansdowne, was 2 down in scratch league and in rough to the right. Hit hybrid to 6 feet to set up makeable birdie against opponent who was in middle of fairway and ended up missing the green. Spurred me on to a halved match.

worst, there are many bunker shots that could be picked, many of which were left in the bunker but the worst of which was Murrayshall 16th, left of the green, thinned out and down the hill across the 17th fairway.

Needing a par on 18 to be sure of beating Fragger back in the summer, I duffed my drive about 110 yards - a bit like a lay-up in front of a ditch.
Having nothing to lose I pulled out the 3 wood, glanced at the Skycaddie - 300 to the front - Oh well here goes nothing.
Thankfully the ground was bone hard and the ball just flew, bounced, rolled and crawled all the way to the front of the green! 2 putts later and the game was in the bag.

Worst?
Way too many to contemplate. The shocking state of my driving has contrbuted greatly to the number.

Best shot was 12 foot putt on 18 to close out quarter final of the match play singles the reason I rank it is because I was 4 up with 5 to play then lost 4 on the bounce and managed to keep it together to make it.

Worst. Tee shot in final, took iron for safety off the first and put it ob with a slack push. Gutted.

:-)

Best; Wedge on the 3rd on The championship, holed out from 118yds. One bounce and in for eagle! The kind of shot I've only ever seen on the telly.

Worst; Few duff drives, thinned chips, missed tiddlers, but my worst as probably my fresh air duff chip at Burntisland.

Best: My 1st ever hole in one with a 5iron on the 3rd at Trevose. None of my group had played there before so i was telling them how to play the hole. "Aim left edge and let the slope take the ball to the hole" then went and did exactly that.

Worst: 18th tee @ Ashburnham. Still smashed from night before, startedgiggling like a school girl during backswing and hit ball of the inside of the heel. Ball shot through my legs and behind me into the bunker beside the 1st green.

Worst shot for me would have to be the tee shot off the 1st at Lefties gaff with about 20 people watching.
Playing in a fourball, the other three guys nailed drives straight down the middle, I stepped up full of confidence and knobbed one about 30 yards off the tee into the semi-rough in front of the fairway. Was I seething...
Smacked a lovely 5 wood recovery up the middle, 9 iron to about 20 feet and canned the putt for a 4 so stuff those blokes back on the 1st tee giggling. I still made 3 points. Up yours!!

Best shot?
I've forgotten

Open at Tain, Worst: Just hit 290 drive at on the first at Tain just short of the road. Probably my best drive on this hole ever onto the ridge on the full. Sh*nked it out of bounds on the next shot.

Open at Elgin Best: 190 yard 5 iron at the 10th to five feet for a tap in birdie

My best has to be the 4i to our 195 yard par3 15th island hole in one of our monthly stableford. Hit it straight just left of the bunker, pitched on the green and rolled to within 15 inches of the pin. Most nervous shot? the next one as the guys said, go on we will have a share of the 2 ball kitty. Made it.

Worsed, I wont count the air shot. Was a drive on our first in our over 50's competition. We were first out and one of my playing partners hits is drive 40 yards, dont worry Roger I say plenty of time. Take out my 5i to find the fairway (short par 4) and whack it a good 30 yards from where i stand. Second shot wasn't much better, so i had played two and I could still hear what the second group on the tee were talking about.

I'm sure there are loads worse, but that is the one I remember most.

Best was a 5-wood 'Tiger stinger' from beside a tree at the 18th, 200yds to go, restricted backswing, thrashed it with a 40yrd draw uphill to 10ft to win the match.

Worst was the 1st tee shot at Princes with Robert Rock standing 4 feet from me, wasn't nervous at all in fact I was the opposite and hit the ball too easy, rolled the wrists and watched the ball snap hook into the cack. The next shot wasn't much better... or the next.. or the next... :(

If I remember correctly, I played that first hole superbly. Par 4, SI11 and I made a 6 for nothing
:D

Best 4 iron approach to the 4th at my club to within 4 feet.
Worst, rescue club from the rough, went right under the ball putting so much back spin on it that it actually ended up about 6" behind were it started.

Haha, that made me chuckle!

As for the tap in 5 footer, flip sake, I'm delighted at 2 putts from 5ft! :D

Well not strictly a shot but undoubtedly the worse moment of 2010 for me.

Club championship, 2 days scratch golf.. I was soooo looking forward to playing in this not only to be part of the years most competitive tournament but also to meet the other Golfers.
Weather was lousy, high winds and rain, one thing I am good at is focusing and so at the end of the day my 84 gross was 2 shots in the lead.
Second day I teed off last with 2 other players 2 shots behind, even stronger winds and rain.
At the 16th I had stayed one shot ahead, word on the course was that the winner would come from the group I was in, one of them had fallen by the wayside and the other was 1 shot behind. I was actually practising my winner speech on the way to the Green...
we were both there in regulation, he putted for par and I had a 3' putt for my par.

As I positioned myself for the putt I noticed a leaf on my shoe, this was an important shot and so I decided to remove the leaf, I bent down and flicked it away with my left hand, in doing so the putter which was in my right hand hit my golf ball... 1 shot lost and I subsequently missed the short putt having lost focus.
I lost the Club championship on the last Putt on the 18th..

Dont even mention Leaves to me...

Best shot holed 8 iron at the third at Blackmoor for an eagle. Don't believe my playing partners who reckon it was thin, and resembled a rat up a drain pipe. They don't recognise a low punch played without a divot.

Try not to remember the bad ones, but a shanked chip at Saunton, after being just off the green in two at a par 5 was slightly disappointing  Proved it wasn't a fluck by shanking another one shortly afterwards. :D

Worst - Club Championship 4th hole dog leg left, put my drive OB left (where was my usual fade??) Reload went long and straight but into the deep rough, 4th shot i went for the glory shot and pulled it off SW which went so high it could have had volcanic dust on it but it got out and over the trees over the bunker stopped dead to within a foot looked to repair my divot and saw my provissional, I had played my partners ball

Best – Anything that goes straight and doesn’t have a fade.
