Well I played last night and it was the worst golf I've played in a long time! I was pleased to break 90! terrible golf!

But I don't mind - I played well in spells and had some pretty terrible holes. But you always learn more from the bad rounds - you learn where you need to improve.
Time to hit the practice field and get my distances fully sorted! :)

TBH many on here would only have you believe they play well all the time, most of what you see in the played today thread, is the me me me shooting the lights out stuff. this just gives the illusion that everyone plays well all the time... they don't, if they did handicaps would be much lower;)

I'm equally capable of a bad round as i am a good one and I've a fairly low handicap.

I find it difficult to learn anything from a bad round. I never have any clue why I'm good one day and terrible another. I just walk away thinking "well that was **** - wtf happened?" Unless it's something obvious like wrong club selection or trying to be too ambitious with shots.

Key in golf is repetition, if you're really so inconsistent sound like more practice is required to groove a more repeatable action. I hit 75 balls after work last night, took me to about 30 shots in before I stopped pulling and started hitting it where I wanted and finding a repeatable groove, I'm still rusty after a number of years out and getting in sync is tough as I've lost mobility with age/injury but it's getting there.

Spot on mate!
Lets be honest - it'd be boring shooting good scores all the time haha

It's just that great game of ours, OP. Learning to use whatever you have on the day and shrug off the rubbish is key to getting better and reaching your potential. Forget the crap quickly, learn from it if you can and remember the good stuff for as long as possible.

Funny you should say this, I've never had the pleasure of seeing you play but reading your posts I get the impression that snedeker rings you up for putting tips. ;) do you aim point my good man ? Lol

Wish I could say I learn from my bad or good rounds.

Each round is an adventure and I never know what is coming, I just enjoy the good and bad.:)

If my bubble bursts on saturday I'm blaming you ;)
5 rounds in a row (2 of them in a comp) all below handicap, been cut and good run will all come crashing down eventually, if it happens sooner than later I'm making a Patrick figure and sticking pins in it

Cant one take a complement? You often say you played rather poorly but still bagged plenty of birdies. My aplogies if you are chipping these in. ;) i just assumed you were deadly with the flat stick.

Again i reiterate. I havnt seen you putt but these are the images the 'i played today' thread creates in my mind.

I'm an OK putter and do indeed make my fare share of Birdies.... unfortunately plenty of Bogeys as well:(

had a card last year in a comp where i had 4 birdies and no pars:(

I don't chip in that often at home, as i rarely chip at Nairn unless in the rough putting from off the green most of the time, not that I'm a bad chipper, just a bad putt is always better than a bad chip

Things to learn from a bad round:

- Golf balls can't swim. Neither can golf clubs.
- Playing partners can be very mean
- There is no such thing as a go-to shot
- Long putts are very hard. So are short ones.
- The bunker you never hit into while it was GUR during winter is finally fixed. Guess what?
- Being really angry can sometimes make your tee-shot go longer ... it only very rarely makes it go straighter as well
- Yes, it is absolutely possible to leave a 3 ft putt short
- If you still haven't hit the green with your third chip, consider putting out of the rough
- No, your golf balls still can't swim, but it is good that you tried it one final time.

I'll add,

- trees are NOT 80% air
- Wind only affects the flight of the ball when NOT taken into account
- Miracle shots attempted almost never come off
- Luck only happens to other golfers

You should see where my mate putts from on the links. He can't chip but has some touch with a Texas wedge.

4birds and no pars is odd alright. When its blowing a bogey is good on the links for me. :)

There is a guy at our who puts from 75 yards out. nothing to do with Links golf, he did that when he was a member at a parkland course in Inversneck;)

Is that possible? Your drive is curving hard right miles into the gorse and almost certainly OOB and you're stood on the tee going "Christ that felt good?"
