I watched top gear last night, and was thoroughly enthralled by it. Bottom line they were driving the cars they remember from what there dads had. The memories just came flooding back. Forget the slapstick comedy from the top gear lot. But what memories do you have of your dads fave car.
For me it had to be a Vauxhall cresta 3250cc. Reg no SNW 947G. There were four of us kids sat in the back and we always argued who had a window seat. It could do 100mph, but felt like 300mph. Me dad sold the car for £50 and the guy who bought it said the engine and gearbox is going in a stock car. He bought a Cortina mk III 1.6L after that and I swear I saw tear in his eyes when he told me it was a bag of crap.
so what’s your Memories of your fave dads car.

We had a Mini went with Mum and Dad to Hong Kong in 1961 and came back with them and 2 Herbert’s in 1964

Vividly remember Dad teaching Mum to drive in it with us 2 in the back shouting “brake” or “Turn Left here”

Later he became a Citroen man and remember him demonstrating his BX with the hydraulic rising suspension ?

Rover 2000 twin headlights.
Leather seats . Awesome motor in its day.

My dad was a chauffeur for many years for a very big company’s Boss.
He used to go to London every Sunday morning for a meeting when he got home he brought the Rolls Royce home to our little council house.
We went out in it every Sunday evening absolute bliss sitting in the back saying “ Home please Bill”
Like the lads I am getting emotional just writing this.

My grandad had a yellow and black Capri that I loved. Dad had a fire engine red 7 series BMW when we moved from down south to Rutland with a car phone that I will always remember. Mum had an Alfa Romeo sprint that I remember as being cool and an escort convertible

My dad's first car was a green hillman imp.
After that, an 1100 (can't recall if it was a morris or austin)
Then an allegro....

Was it the brick wall on the West Wycombe Road (my fault) or the car that hit me above the rail station? That killed it? ?
I remember it being the wall that totalled it......

Moving on, The Old Man's choice of cars was a little suspect looking back.
After the Mini came an Austin 1300, then the Maxi.
Others included a :poop:coloured Allegro, a Peugoet 106, Renault 14, several BX's, a ZX and then a few C3s to finish.
But the Metro stands out - Applejack Green...google it if you want to throw up.
Learnt to drive in that, to, my test in it, and picked the girlfriend up from school in it.
What a POS:ROFLMAO:

I remember my dad's Ford Anglia, circa 1964. And I remember his Ford Cortina mk3 I learned to drive in in 1975. He was on an out-of-hours job at a factory. I went with him and spent the evening giving it hell around the brick yard. I can't put in print what he thought of my handbrake turn, him in the passenger seat.
