Hi guys...

Playing wychwood this weekend sun and mon. Bit of an annual get together with friends and family for a knock and a few beers!!

Pretty happy with my game at the moment striking my irons well but not really getting scores I to go with it...

Anyhow won't bore you with that just wondering if there are any good pointers any one could give me as I think I am the only one not to have played it before ...... Would love to take a bit of the pot..... :D

Also any suggestions for longest drive and nearest pin holes???

Cheers in advance..

Played it a few years ago,but can't remember all the holes, though there are some great holes.17th,if I remember is a great par 3.Think it was quite a long course.I remember the lesbian wedding on the Saturday, and the crack we had in the bar on the Friday night.Enjoy!"!"

It's only about 30 mins from our house and I've played it a few times and really enjoyed it. No problems at all with the course or the hotel in fact the course is very good and can be very long and tough (dependant on which tees you play from as they've got about 5) but it's a very long walk between the tees so make sure you've plenty of liquids in the bag as this weekend is going to be a scorcher.

A word of caution though as it's a typical corporate/resort course which allows anyone on the course with rounds often taking over 6 hours (sorry but you have been warned):(

Playing really fast at the minute.

Greens are bone hard too. Bunkers aren't great and the rakes are pants.

When we played there at the end of last month the rough was brutal.

As for tips on the course. Buy a course planner. There is a lot of water on there, especially the 9th and 16th (Play to the right of the bunkers on 16) where the water cannot be seen from the tee box.

15 isn't as big a carry over the water and clag as it looks from the tee and the bunker behind are well in range for driver if you take the short route.

17 is a gripper of a par 3. Massive carry over water to a pretty narrow green. You can bail out right on that hole if need be but you'll leave along chip

Like I say, get a course planer from the pro shop. They are only £4.50 and you'll find it invaluable.

Have fun

Many thanks for the pointers, shame about condition of bunkers........ I will do my best to stay clear

Was thinking about course planner but have a sky caddie so not sure if worth it!!!!

Looking forward to it now...... 2 days golfing in the sun !!!!

DRS I'm a member at Wychwood and can confirm the following:

Great course with some great holes. The rough can be brutal, you will lose some balls, Can be megga slow because of the amount of corporate and society gigs going on and it pisses me off at times. Long walk between some greens and the next tee.

Great opening hole so try and keep the ball left of the fairway marker as your ball will finish up a long way down the fairway and in the middle, anything right of marker will be held up in the fringe or by the rough.

Hole 4 is a tough longish par 4 so go for the longest drive here

Hole 5 aim for the fairway bunker and watch your ball finish up in the middle, aim right and watch your ball end up down a slope into light rough or OB.

Hole 6 elevated par 3 with a minimum 150 yard carry over rubbish and a brooke, usually into prevailing breeze - club up for safety.

Hole 7 long carry to the fairway off the tee so aim at the fairway bunker on the left, as hitting the middle of the fairway will see your great drive end up in the drink as the fairway kicks your ball right. Watch out for the ditch 60 yards short of the green.

Is hole 7 the par 5 with the protected area (Hazard) runin the entire right side of the hole, aside from a small bail out strip of fairway the other side?

Thats the fella Gareth. You just get through screwing up the par 3 because a gust of wind stopped your ball and threw into the ditch. Walk off with no points, and up to the next hole, looking at a long carry over rubbish. You hit a great ball thinking 'ave it' only to see it pitch and turn right and run into a ditch or the water plantation. holes 6 and 7 can smash your card even if you're having a great round before reaching here. Hole 8 can play into a strong wind from an elevated tee, but another long carry required over rubbish, so the wind can shove your ball to the right and into trees or punishing rough. So another potential card wrecker sees you stood on the 9th crying asking 'why me'.

You can play with your A game at Wychwood and walk off scratching your head feeling you've been bum****ed. You need to be accurate off the tees and put the ball in the right place. Thinking you've hit a great ball on some holes, will see you either not find your ball, or watch it kick seriously left or right into water, rough, trees or OB.

its quite a tough course , and the the 17th is brutal esp if playing into the wind

however the food is lovely and the bar is ok too!!!! pool table in the back corner as well

Had an e-mail from them last week with a special offer,2rounds of golf,b and b for £45pp,and reduced cost for evening meal, was going to book it for a few days next month.

Thanks for the pointers guys they cam in very usefull......

Just got back from a great Sunday/Monday golf.... Very tough course and got punished quite a bit, course in great nic, greens holding balls etc, rough is tough and the hazards are very well placed... Which I found yesterday!! Took too many putts today which cost me (10 more than yesterday!!!)

Would defiantly recommend!!!

Highlight for me was my 1st tee shot yesterday.... Left of marker as informed! Straight out the centre of club bounding down the hill and comin to rest at a whopping 350yards :p 5 iron into green and walked off with birdie........ That's about as good as it got!!
