Worst round ever.

I had my worst round ever yesterday. Started playing last April and it's been going ok. Had an absolute stinker yesterday in medal comp. 105 gross - 14 handicap. 91 nett on par 69 course. Played like a complete muppet. I was spanking my drives well, but a combination of bad luck, bad decisions, and a complete inability to hit a golf shot resulted in the above, WHY???????? (I'm never playing again).

Whilst my words or others on this weathered forum will generate no comfort...

Been there (i bet we hall have) recently the hooks crept into my game and every tee shot BOOM Duck hook... every hole made the game for me sooo un enjoyable... about 3 round and i thought argh im calling it a day this isnt fun.... left it a week or so went out with a friend who pleaded for a game went out shot 81 (+9 off 14)... Immediatly changed my out look

Worked a bit off the tee and the hook is now a steady right to left shape! back on my face!

Mate.... it happens this is GOLF! IF u were knocking it round perfect all the while you wouldnt be on this forum talking to us... ud be out there making a living!!

Keep ur chin up have a think about what went wrong and things will fall into place! TRUST ME im a prime example when im on song i can shoot low 80's even high 70's its been known but when i go out on a rough day i can hit 90's no probs

Yes i know its frustrating but trust me ur A game wont be too far away!!

Don't worry about it. I was 23 over for 9 holes on Saturday if i had carried on i think i would have struggled to break 150.

I can't hit a iron to save my life at the moment, but will get it right again by next season.

umm.. you have been playing 5 months and your a 14 handicap?? DUDE you are winning the war... you clearly have MAD skills so just suck this one up cos you seem to have things under control!

Thanks for the positive comments guys. Like I said I'm never playing again though. Oh that reminds me....... I wonder what time the driving range closes tonight, and I must book myself into the comp for next Sunday. STUPID GAME!!!!!!!!!!

It's a strange game isn't it. I had my worst game ever earlier this year, also 104 (but im off 10), I finished the round with quite a positive outlook believe it or not.
Then yesterday I played brilliantly, but just could not chip (literally, I have the yips) and got so frustrated that I actually thought about giving up for the first time ever. Then I hit one of the shots of my life into the 18th green just to convince myself to keep plodding on.

I had a nightmare the other weekend. Usually you can look back and pick one shot or putt that makes you think it's all worthwhile but no, nada, zilch. Couldn't think of a single shot that I either executed properly or felt good. Went out the next day and shot a net 73 (+3) with four double bogies chucked in. Still not great but a world of difference fron the previous 24 hours. It will happen. Forget it and move on.

Hey it happens. I got 104 earlier on in the season (I'm off 14). Last week shot 2 over for 9 in an early evening knock. It comes and goes. I've been striking it really well for two months without putting a decent score in. The fact I'm cr@p at ptting don't help.

You guys are lucky, I'm off 14 but this year my best round is 91, I shot 94 on Sunday (in the p*ssing, windy rain granted), trouble is I just don't know where the shots are going, it was my putting initially but that's coming back a little, I only 3 putted once this weekend (putting for a birdie, obviously!) and I par'd 3 of the 4 par 3s (by which I mean I was on the green with the tee shot and 2 putted, rather than missing the green and making a good recovery, apart from the 8th but the ball landed on the green, I just span it back off the front but I putted anyway, so I'm counting that!), which I'll take any day of the week, and they've finally chopped down the knee high rough so I actually found 4 balls that I'd usually have lost before now and they were playable, so if I'd played this round last week it probably would have been more like 100.

So you think you want to give up, imagine how you'd feel if you had to fight just to break 100 every week, despite knowing you can do so much better and not having a clue what to do about it, my driving isn't bad right now and I'm quite happy with my irons, I hit some great long to mid irons this weekend, like I said the putting is returning but I just cannot score for toffee, and I've no idea what to do about it.

It does make me wonder why any of us play this ridiculous game.

Had a shocker of sorts at the weekend at my old home club. Was striking the ball well enough (for the most part) but could not chip or sink a putt on the greens to save my life. They were like glass! Ended up 14 over for the front nine and 13 over for the back nine! Here's me thinking my short game had improved. Apparently not! Back to the par 3 course this weekend for me then!
