Worst course you have played?

Mount Pleasant Airfield in the Falkland Islands, that's it guys close the thread!!!

PS - I can assure you there is nothing worse.

Didn't play golf when I was down there but come on man, give them a break

I did go to the races though, that was an experience

Ok Deke, in relation to your PM I will add to your thread.

I will not out any track as the "worst" course I have played. I think its unfair and a track is a track. Some people will be members and the course will serve a purpose and an escape to someone. There are tracks that I've not enjoyed however these tracks will be home to someone.

Now if you were to start a thread asking the most over rated course(s) you have played I would happily contribute.

after my Golf Monthly fitting day with FootJoy on thursday (which was amazing) i would have to St Ives is up there as the worst i have ever played.

Not often 3 out of 4 of you walk off after 9 holes on a free round of golf!

Appreciate your honesty chief!

Chilworth and Otterbourne in Hants.

Great staff, nice people but sadly just not on the right foundations. Some interesting holes though on both. Could be made into nice places with cash and a redesign here or there.

Theres a course round my way called roseberry grange, and it isnt the best.

The drainage is awful, so if theres even a spot of rain you can guarentee puddles everywhere. BUT the only place you wont find water is the water hazard's I.E the hollowed out ground where water should be. Also the last 4-5 holes have fairways full of local youths.
And last year i witnessed a lady riding a horse on the 5th fairway!!

Mansfield golf club! where do I begin, 14/18 blind tee shots! a hole on the back 9 about broke my wrist due to what turned about large rocks lying the fairway with just grass over the top, Awful layout, awful condition and dangerous in places!

Southwood in Farnborough, when it was a nine hole course. Always under water, but it was 30 years ago so it may have improved (now 18 holes I think)

Southwood is OK these days. And as far as being wet - well it rather would be as it is the local flood plain and has to be mamnaged as such.

I'm afraid I find this 'worse course you've played' sort of post a bit unfair to those courses and clubs mentioned. We all have our likes and dislikes and bad days etc. that may have little to do with the course or club. If you are a member of a club that others say in public 'is s**t' when you are trying to improve things - then that sort of thought or comment is not really very helpful. Sorry for being a misery on this but it's how I feel.

To be honest I see this thread as a service to golfers who may otherwise pay good money to play horrid courses, and not all of the responses had been particularly scathing, like the one you quoted for example.I do take your point however, thanks for your post.

A few already mentioned but Thames Ditton & Esher (nothing more than tree-lined dog walking tracks), Epsom Downs (actually improves when the gypos park their caravans on it during Derby week), Hounslow Heath (they have a par 4 you have to play as a dog-leg to avoid a gypo encampment) and Cherry Wood (was just in appalling condition when I played there).

I really need to go to Lydd just to experience it but for me the worst of all time is Ansty near Coventry. It's a dogturd muni that actually had one of their regulars write a bullsiht piece for Golf Monthly claiming it was worth playing. If golf courses were women, Ansty would be Susan Boyle without the voice.
