World No 1

You'd think people would be a bit cheerier about the first European to be World No.1 since 1994! Let alone the 1st Brit since '94. Or the 1st Englishman since '94.

In other words, England, Britain and Europe's Lee Westwood is the World Number 1 golfer according to the system that ranks this.

Long may he hold it or be replaced by Kaymer or McDowell or Donald or Casey or McIlroy or any other European player!

For a bloke to be outside the top 250 7 years ago to numero uno is pretty special. To get there from top 10 in a year is also pretty impressive when you consider how long the likes of Mickelson have been there and never managed it.

Mr Westwood - I salute you.
 
think Freddie Couples, David Duval where world no1 before they won a major,

So was Woosie (though he won the Masters the following week).

He's played consistently good golf over the last 2 years and this is his reward. He's earned it, so can't people let him have it without tainting it?
