World No 1

Woods is the worlds best player because he's been No1 for over 200 weeks thats why

He may have been number one for over 200 weeks but he hasn't performed consistently in the last two years. In that respect whether we agree with them or not the rankings don't lie.

I think it's harsh to bemoan Westwood's ranking. He won the Race to Dubai last year, finished runner up at Augustus and St Andrews. The likelihood is he won't hold the top spot for long if he doesn't win a major soon as Kaymer is racking up points like no-ones business.

Ok the system isn't perfect but how would you change it?

In my opinion, Martin Kaymer has more of a claim to the no. 1 spot than Westwood.

Based on the last 12 months alone I'd agree but don't forget Westwood did have a decent 2009 and came close in several majors and won the Race to Dubai. However since then Kaymer has really kicked on and if it was done over a one year ranking he'd be pretty certain to be No 1

Well done Lee.

It's just a pity that the system is rubbish. 2 years worth of results....give me strength. Golf of all games is about form here and now rather than what someone did ages ago.

Should be the last 10 or 20 tournaments and the results from the preceding majors, wherever in the calendar we are.

World's number 1 golfer (this year) based on wins to tournaments played

Either Kaymer (3 wins including a major), McDowell (3 wins including a major) or Jiminez! (3 wins)

So, yes the rankings need sorted.

Woods, no wins. He's no longer no. 1 and doesn't deserve to be.. but sadly he probably will be again soon.

For me the world number 1 should be decided on this....

(in order of releveance IMO)

1. Deal with pressure in any situation
2. Majors
3. The ability to close out tourneys
4. Putting
5. Shot Making
6. Ridiculous vision to make shots and make them happen

Now who should be number 1...

Tiger 6 things 6 boxes ticked

Then kaymer then G Mac.

I like westwood and am pleased hes number 1 but on the above he's not...

Interesting. On the above plastic Phil ticks, for me, all of them some of the time and only 1 man ticks all of them at more of the time, maybe not lately but I believe he will again soon and it wouldn't suprise me if he is back in pole position come a week today.

Thing is everyone is bringing up TW's form in just 2010.

If I'm not mistaken, but didnt he have the best year performance wise by far of any player in '09? Albeit no Majors were won but close.

Stroke average is irrelevant. That depends on which courses you play. If you're playing Carnoustie and Valderrama regularly you're not gonna score well for example.

I appreciate that the world of golf is mainly about form and a shorter period would give a more accurate picture of form over say a 1 year period, but I feel there would be too much yo - yoing. I also think that class is a better way to rank the best golferis in the world as form can be temporary. 2 years worth of form feels about right to me to see if it was a flash in the pan (Hamilton, Yang, Cabrera, Glover Cambell etc...)
The top 10 justb taking this year would be below:

1) Kaymer - 332
2) Donald - 285
3) Westwood - 279
4) Els - 262
5) Kucher - 254
6) McDowell - 247
7) Mickelson -243
8) Furyk - 240
9) Johnson - 235
10) Casey - 223

Tiger would be around 60th in the world
Oosthuizen would be 13th (Lucky for some
I think the current rankings do a difficult job reasonably well.

The system is what it is and according to the system Lee is world number 1, I would say the only time he has looked like world number one was at the Ryder cup this year he was fantastic.

Well done Lee but don't get to comfy

If me Granny had balls she'd be me uncle Fred.

But she hasn't

And she's not.

Tiger isn't world number 1. He doesn't deserve to be. That doesn't mean to say that on his day he isn't the best golfer in the world, coz he is.

Kaymer is the man in form, but if you take that arguement too far, the guy that wins every week is the world number one, and that would be rediculous.

For all it's strengths and weaknesses the whole golfing industry has accepted this way of choosing the world's number one golfer for generations.

They aren't going to change it coz of a few unkind words on a forum. Albeit the best forum in the world. Or as I call it, the world's number 1 forum.

So......

Lee Westwood is RIGHTFULLY the world's number one golfer.

CONGRATULATIONS LEE !! .

:D

Even if you never answered my question on your website about your dodgy short game.
