World environment question

We don't need opinions but facts would help. That would give us the information to help reduce the way the planet is being damaged. At the moment diesel cars are all evil yet as others have pointed out an Ocean liner, cargo vessel, major airports etc may be throwing out far more. Do cows really give out so much? When you have the right information you can help solve the problem much better.

Part of the problem is that news only makes the news if it has a negative angle to it. Yes there are climate change problems but there are also a lot of success stories wrt environmental improvements and wildlife conservation.
Cyclical climatic events did occur regularly over history, even ice ages happended not that long ago.
Not sure scientists have all the answers.
Even the ozone layer hole which was a big issue back in the 90s has largely repaired itself, partly because of environmental controls (they think) thus never makes the news anymore.
The BBC shut down David Bellamy because he was a climate change sceptic too calling global warming 'poppycock', all views should be considered.
Could there be an element of 'control through fear' going on?

I believe there have been plenty of 'facts' put out there...
However I feel we are collectively too easily dismissive of them...

I mean, after all, doing away with the beads in my body wash...
What difference can that possibly make?

You are spot on about "control though fear." Universities unseat profs who don't toe the party line..... Pliny wrote at length about the excellent wine being produced in Yorkshire and you can't tell me the Kilt would have been invented in the current climate of Scotland!

Climate has gone in cycles for millennia...

Regardless - the world's population is growing faster than ever. That has to be fed and housed somehow. How can it ever be sensible to not look after the environment and care for natural resources?

Therein lies the trouble....short term financial profit over longer term sense!

Highest co2 levels for 800yrs could be down to better detection equipment.
As has been said we don't know who to believe.
Desiel cars were the bees knees couple of years ago so everyone bought one now you can't drive them to work in London and going to be elsewhere.

Think it's like the imimmigration debate not long ago if you voiced an opinion you were branded a racist.
Go against the scientist you are branded stupid.

something is going on but who do you believe?

Humans are not going to give up the internal combustion engine / aeroplanes / electricity so we need answers we can trust with no vested interests.

I’m skeptical about global warming. I can’t see how we can be sure that this is not a natural and cyclical phenomenon when we have only been on this planet for 5 minutes.

I'm with you on this, Sean.

Isn’t it also the case that 1 ocean liner emits the same amount of pollution per day than 5 million deisel cars?
The problem is huge, we’re all doomed.

I read recently that the six largest freight liners in the world put out more harmful pollution than all the diesel road vehicles on the planet!

Fishing again, Doon ?

That story just makes me laugh, I imagine it in cartoon form.

Great big fish from the Pacific gets a bit lost, finds his way to Scotland where he gets chased by a pack of the local dolphins.
In his haste to escape he bashes straight into a salmon pen, shakes head and as it clears he thinks foooooooood.
