Whether you like it or not the Vulcan bomber is part of this countries aviation heritage - and it is a beautiful aircraft designed and built by British engineers - and something to be proud of. You really cannot view things from 40yrs ago in the context of todays geopolitical environment and public views. Well you can - but when you do I think that you completely miss the point.

Still my favourite plane of all time. I used to love watching it fly as a kid at Greenham common. Sitting on the roof of the car, having it fly over the crowd, open up the afterburners and set off all the car alarms making the ground shake was awesome.
A few years ago I worked for a company that makes full size model planes for various things and we had to take moulds from a P40 Warhawk at the Hendon air museum. They also have a Vulcan bomber in the hall and one night the security guard saw me looking at it and let me in it for a look around. What an amazing experience, standing right under the bomb bay doors knowing exactly what used to be housed in it and sitting in the cockpit and realising just how small it was for the men flying these things.

I'm very fortunate to be invited to a golf day on the weekend of the Farnborough Air Show at the golf course right next to the Airport. It's every 2 years and a fantastic day.
It's as if they are performing the show just for us as they fly over the course. Last year one of the Red Arrows flew very low above our fairway as he was regrouping, could even see the pilot!

We see all the latest fighters putting on their displays. The Eurofighter is an awesome aircraft as it goes through its paces. And I kid you not, the noise it creates on its own is louder than the Red Arrows all together - the ground certainly shakes as it roars above.

Really look forward to this day every 2 years - what can be better, 27 holes of golf whilst an air show is going on right above the fairways! :thup:

I've several memorable plane memories.

Went to Farnborough show when the giant Russian transport attended - and backfired so ground view only. Some impressive jets heading straight up!

Concorde used to pass over work every week day. Never got tired of hearing that crackle!

Merlin engines just sound great! Was playing Drumoig (not a great course) when a show was on at Leuchars and stopped to watch Lancaster dawdle around flanked by a Spitfire and a Hurricane.

Been quite a few fly over The Shire while golfing - as they are stationed nearby and head to London for special occasions, including that same group as above. A couple went over last weekend, but it as only the engines that caught my ear - quite a 'plane-ey' area - not quite as busy as Panshanger though!

Mustang is the best performing of the Merlin powered though. First Immelman turn seen close up was a Mustang.

Had something of a natural Plane upbringing. One uncle 'flew' during WWII and home town as US Antarctic base, so plenty of C130s and GlobeMasters. Harvards (most hated) and Vampires (loved them) were seen all too frequently. Never really caught the bug, but could recognise them by sound.

They are an amazing sight, there's a mock up of a Vulcan cockpit at the air museum near me. I can't believe how cramped they are. To sit in there, in the freezing cold with 5 other blokes must have taken some endurance.

These things have to be preserved, they are a piece of history. It's no difference from preserving a castle. Look what flew over my house recently!

Being where we are, close to the training base RAF Halton we get a few flypasts. Any that flies over Buck House comes over too. Often see Spits and a Lanc too.
A couple of weeks ago I saw what I thought was a Lanc in the near distance whilst playing. But on closer inspection it looked like a B-17..! Not sure if there's any still flying but it certainly looked like it.

Had the Vulcan and the BoB flight go over the course last year for the queens jubilee. Beautiful sight and the whole course ground to a halt

Living in Lincolnshire we are very very spoilt for the aircraft. Often see the red arrows practising and the Battle of Britain do there practise displays right over the course. Very surreal feeling watching the Lancaster perform overhead. Now occasionally get the Vulcan around en route to displays its normally heading to a airfield over Lincolnshire to do a practise display before heading on to the real display. Just a fantastic sight and that's a real noise.
