We have bucket holes in mown general areas which we want to be able to deem out of play to enable qualifiers over the minimum of 10 holes for handicap purposes. This would obviously mean long walks between holes. We played several rounds actually playing the bucket holes just for continuity and entering Hole Not Payed in Club V1. The cards were accepted and handicaps adjusted. We have now just been told that playing on these holes deemed out of play is classed as on course practice and we must stop. If we want to play qualifiers we must make the walks between holes at the same time as golfers who are playing non qualifiers over the full18 holes some with the buckets. The club is now stopping all qualifiers when a main green is out. Anyone have similar issues?

We play on ours all year. We don’t have perfect greens all year but they are great in the summer and not bad the rest of the year. Small sacrifice to keep off temps. I’ve seen all sorts From small patches across huge undulations to a standard hole put in the middle of a fairway with divots all around it. Best temps I’ve seen have been short grass as far as you’d dare take fairway grass and a bigger hole. This was on a course with a handful of temp which were used in bad draining Areas or green that are completely shaded. All temp greens had been really thought out.
