Winter Olympics (for those that like them)

It seems it’s a “complete”’rupture

Looks like the knee will be a brace and then as Clive says it’s relying on the muscle strength
"She says along with the ACL tear she also has bruising and meniscus damage."

Quote from the media, and 'tear' can mean many things, so may not be a complete rupture.

Ice hockey for me. I skated a bit in my teens, 20’s & 30’s but only tried ice hockey once. I thought I was reasonably competent until I tried ice hockey. Those guys are unbelievably good.
This will be the main thing I watch, the US/Canada rivalry has picked up after the 4 Nations Cup, and there are so many good teams it should be a good competition.

I can't help but think that someone needs to sit LV down and ask her how much does she want to be able to walk freely in later years, maybe not that much later. She has been to 4 Olympics already, it is not as though she has missed them completely.
She already has a bionic right knee that seems to work just fine. Perhaps after this Olympics she'll go for a matching pair.

Watching the ladies ice-hockey.....when I consider my drunken Bambi like efforts to put the dustbin out when my drive is a tad slippery, it is simply amazing what they do

Great footage from the drone that follows behind the skiers in the Mens Downhill.

Wonder if the skiers are aware of it given it makes a noise like a mini F1 car?
You've never skied at 80mph on sheet ice, have you?
(Nor have I, but from my recreational skiing experience, am certain they won't hear it).

Any idea why there are style points in ski jumping? There are no extra tricks/spins etc. that they put in like in the freestyle events, they are basically doing the same thing i.e. fly as far as possible. There don’t seem to be style points in other classic Alpine events - what am I missing?

Makes an inherently dangerous sport a bit safer. Competitors don’t push to the absolute extremes of landing (which would mean pulling the skis ready for landing at the last nanosecond) because the slightly shorter but perfectly formed and telemarked landing will be the better overall result.

My wife is in Italy at the moment for it, flew over last Monday and staying a month, she loves the cross country and Biathlon as well as down hill, I will be watching the hockey, will not be as brutal as the NFL, but should be terrific.

almost prophetic words given the bad crash that Vonn has just had.

Just watching the women's downhill.
Lindsey Vonn tigers ex has had a really bad crash ,no news as of yet about injuries but it doesn't look good for her . The medical team gave been with her for ten minutes and now she is being air lifted away by helicopter.
Nasty looking crash ,hope she is not too badly hurt .

Just read about it.

How does one rupture an ACL, and then compete for your country at elite level a week later!?

People might call it heroic. But surely it is idiotic? Not so much from the player, but from team officials and medics. Surely the correct advise, for health and safety, was you are not allowed to compete. It is highly dangerous.

There is some chatter around the actual extent of the injury from last week, regardless I hope she recovers from this latest one.

according to the BBC...

Vonn had been unsure what her knee was capable of withstanding but had targeted the downhill - saying she would try no matter the outcome - while also being entered in the super-G and team events. It is now unlikely she will compete in those, meaning her Olympic career has almost certainly come to a devastating end.

Unlikely??? I'd say its a bloody racing certainty!!!!
