windows 8 DVD play ?

My son has now got his new PC running Windows 8

It has a sound and video card and DVD drive but it will not play DVD'S

I have read that Windows 8 doesnt support DVD's anymore

Does anybody know a suitable Windows 8 media player we can load ?

Tried Power DVD but it was only a 30 day trial !

Must be free !!

I would go with VLC personally, I havent used media player since I moved from xp.
