Got a phone call from my old sales manager yesterday morning. He phoned to tell me that he had bumped into an old customer of mine whilst doing jury service and was passing on the guys regards.
He mentioned that it was the 3rd time he had been called to do jury service over the years and I commented that I had never been selected....

Got home last night and bugger me!! I've been called for jury service at Lewes Crown Court on the 25th October!!!

How weird is that

Can't quite match that Smiffy but at the FP meet I was chatting to one of the guys who was a member at Sweetwoods. I asked him if he knew Steve who had been a member there for many years but had recently moved to Holtye.

Steve is a bit like you in that he enjoys occasionally organising ad-hoc "society" days and I hadn't heard from him for several months.

You could have knocked me down with the proverbial feather a couple of hours later when I checked my voice mail and there was a message from Steve inviting me to a 4 day bash in Sept with the lads in Devon.

Jury service Smiffy? God help the accused, having seen some of the stuff on here I can just begin to guess!

So the accused played golf at Lydd Milud! ... diminished responsibility!

The accused was seen wearing white trousers! .. Guilty of a crime of fashion!

Good luck, I hated it...kiddy fiddling case!! :(

I heard a weird coincidence from my uncle the other day. Many years ago, his daughter moved house and had just settled in. About the same time my uncle decided to clear out his bathroom and wanted to hire a skip, so he found one in the phone book and gave them a call. His daughter answered and it was her new home number, which she'd not yet given to anyone. Turned out the skip hire company had gone under recently and their phone number had been transferred to a residential property. Now *that* is spooky!!

Never done Jury service, and don't want to either. Neither has Mrs Mog. Odd how some people come out of the hat time and time again, while others never do.

Agreed.

Doing Jury Service would be a Nightmare for me. Especially if the trial was a long one.

I did it once when I was self-employed. I claimed for 3 weeks at 100% earnings, it worked out well in actual fact, but I suppose you have "regulars" to consider.
I stood as foreman on a few cases. We had to go to a hotel one night because we couldn't reach a verdict.

Done it twice now. Nothing too exciting either times but quite an interesting experience to see how the legal system actually works close up. Sadly we never got to stay in a hotel as all the cases were unanimous are some deliberation.

I've never done it, but I've heard various stories of it. For different people it seemed to range from a months holiday - check in each morning and if not required take the rest of the day off - to a life wrecker that lasted about 3 months (he ended up divorced).

I think the company would have a fit if I was called as one of the projects I'm on is one of those that not just anyone is allowed to be involved in.
