Why why flippin why.

To have three blobs off a 20 handicap is nothing unusual. There aren't many rounds I play, off 9, where I score on every hole & 1, 2 or 3 blobs is not unheard of. I've seen you play, Tash, & it's simply a case of the fact that if you don't hit enough good shots. If you're anything like me, you'll also drop shots every round by playing the wrong shot. You'll try to salvage a par from a difficult position & finish up taking a double bogey. It's very rare that I can look back on a round & say I didn't chuck away shots through bad thinking. When you've finished, go back over the round in your head & ask yourself what you could have done differently. I bet that bad thinking will have usually cost you a couple of shots. Odds on that a sharper short game would save a few too.
Brutal:D

Thats why you are a 20 handicap, you need all the help you can till you get better. Have you tried going to the range to practice

Most people when they start playing think that the hard bit about golf is learning to hit the ball well. That in itself is hard enough but the really hard thing is playing well for 18 holes. Even pros make double bogies.

I'm off 12 and shot 38 for the first 9 and 47 for the second nine on Sunday! Did I play better on the first 9? Well scoring wise yes, but I only shot 38 because of some miraculous recovery play which didn't happen on the other 9.

So Tashy old mate - crap play affects everyone at times during a game and it's rare to play a Stableford without a blob or two and I guess that's why you always get "I scored 35 points with 3 blobs" when you ask how someone played

It's life Tashy - just the way it is. Seems you're like me - can play decent golf for 15, possibly 16, holes. When we can manage it for them extra 2 or 3 holes, then our handicaps will come down. Don't know about you but my problem is not poor shot selection, it's just poor shots. It's only 3 or 4 seriously crap shots per round, but throw in the associated recovery or reloading, and the score for the hole goes skywards to "ruin" the round. But on other hand 16 out of 18 is a good proportion. I'm 89% of a decent golfer :)

Hope the OP doesn't mind(sorry), but your quote and post did bring a laugh to my face early in the morning:rofl:.

I almost can not remember the last time I played 18 holes in a comp and didn't have a least one double bogey on my card tbh:mad:. Also it is fairly unusual for me not to lose a ball in a round, even now when my faster swing has settled in and I am actually playing lower or around my handicap in comps and non comps. On the other side you have to make sure you get a birdie or more to help offset those doubles, those rotten little suckers.

Golf is a game of removing the really bad shots and recovering the bad shots with a very good chipping and putting game. Bit like Chris mentioned above when the recovery part of the game is working then things are great scoring wise.

Sounds like my golf. Similar amount of complete rubbish shots and 3 or 4 3 putts and my round is snookered. Haven't yet played to handicap at my club since joining in Feb. Don't practice which is an issue and don't play often enough to get a roll going so settling at the moment to being a 26 handicapper.

Concentrate on getting the same ball round every time and keeping the ball in play with no penalty shots. If you can do that regularly you'll be down to at least one shot a hole no problem. You're obviously a capable player but setting different goals when you start may help and one may take care of the other. Just a thought
