Why the GM forum?

I've seen the other forums, yeah, some are bigger, much bigger. GM is a growing site which recently has seen its popularity increase.
On my first post on joining I felt it only proper that I introduce myself. The welcome I got was warm and friendly a sure way of encouraging the new member to get involved.
I'm a relative newcomer to the game, as such a number of my posts have involved asking advice. The vast majority have been answered with clear and simple info and tips from guys who know what they're talking about. For that I thank them. I also feel comfortable in putting my two pennorth in when it's a subject I have some experience in.
Healthy discussion and debate is what keeps and builds a forum. Trolls are soon given the cold shoulder by the members, as are the occasional idiots who seem to haunt the vast majority of public forums.

A great comunity, friendly members and approachable staff. Being a magazine subscriber also makes me feel that little bit more part of the site.

Let's keep it going and we'll see the site get bigger and better :)

The range in standard of golfer is great, and it doesn't matter what standard you are, everyone is approachable and this lends itself to some great debates.

Also, the way the magazine engages the members is awesome, matches up at St Andrews, prizes each month for posts etc. I've won a 5 wood and am testing a Srixon wedge, that unless Srixon ask for it back, i get to keep :)

I think its a great forum for a great magazine. All the people here are decent avid golfers who love the game , its good to mingle with people who share the same passion as yourself!

no one needs to apologise
i am just pointing out that some threads are quite close to insulting and that's all i want to say on the matter, just a personal opinion, i may be wrong

I think everyone on here feels a collective responsibility for each other to deliver opinions that are valid, to the point and more often than not very witty.... Show me another forum with a Comfy Club.

Boabski your absolutely right. As much as i try and contain myself i am probably one of the worst for stepping the line. I do apologise I try my best!
i hope I fit some useful information and worthy reading in most of my posts.
Medway jon, you got nothing to worry about, you've never put a foot wrong as far as i can say!

i agree gasp, but people should show other members due respect and not start verbally attacking them because of their valid opinion was a little off the mark or maybe they have a point but get cut down cos the other person think they know better,

If any one does feel i have offended someone or written something they prefer not no see please do pm me as i'd rather i was told than left in the dark !
Kind Regards!

i`m same as `toad ` ,
i didn`t know about until i read about it in the `gm`.
great way to speak to other gowfers, on a wide range of topics,i suppose that`s what seperates our sport from others..help`s always on hand ,regardless of ur ability..
keep up the good work ! euan

Up to about a month ago I had always thought that people who joined forums on line were sad gits with nothing better to do with their time, so never even bothered to look at one. Not quite sure now why I looked at the GM forum - it may well have been something of interest in the Forum Section of the mag that caught my eye. Anyway, had a look and the rest, as they say, is history.

I have absolutely no other experience of on-line forums but, in all honestly, I can't believe that there are any others out there better and of more interest to me than this one. It's almost like being in the clubhouse after the Sunday morning swindle. Camaradarie, banter, questions, answers, opinions, bragging rites, minor and soon forgotton disagreements. All in all, a very comfy clubhouse indeed.

The icing on the cake is the close and personal interest and involvement of the GM staff in the forum. Surely above and beyond the call of duty.

I was the same, Leftie. Hence not knowing that I could have given myself a pseudonym! Ho hum. It's done now and no reason to change.

My mates give me a bit of stick if I ever mention the GM forum topic but the fact is that since joining I've actually met and played with some of the members and staff and had a ball doing so. I've had a fantastic laugh with guys I've never met and hopefully made friends of the ones I have. Long may it continue.

We're certainly not purely a virtual forum like most others. It's more like a clubhouse, as you say. Maybe it's the nature of the game which makes us so like-minded. Like stepping onto the tee and meeting up with 3 new friends.

Probably nothing golf related, Leftie. All the best ones were taken, and, as I have proven many times on the golf course, I have no imagination! Plus, I was worried that any pseudnym might become a self fulfilling prophecy, as in OOB, Shanker, Duck_Hook_Master, Lord of the 4 putt, etc!

My "schooltime and beyond" nickname probably, Johnboy. See why I'm happy to keep the status quo?

I think for me it has to be the way all us custom fittins saddos are warmly embraced (tongue in cheeek!!!)

Not sure how I got here but the journey since has been long, sometimes bumpy but always fun. I like the way we lurch from the serious to the utterly obscure in the click of a mouse (medwayjon, MVP A-F and many others thank you for that)

I like the way everyone on here tells it like it is and don't hide behind pretention or vanity. I like the way even when things get a bit heated we can all remain "adult" and at the end remain friends.

So here to us and long may we reign as not necessarily the biggest but by far the best online golf forum in cyberspace
