Why is this game so great?

Because I can play the worst round in my life and only remember the one decent shot/hole that I played. That is enough to have me gagging to get back on the course.

One of the main things that I appreciate within the game is the fact that a large level of ettiquete, mannors and friendliness are displayed at all times. A far cry from the environment which I play football in. It gives me great relief to be able to go and socialise with people who are polite, courteous and respectful at all times, whilst still being able to thoroughly enjoy myself playing what in my opinion is the best sport on the planet.

Other than that I think Mike covered it all ;)

I agree with everything that MikeH has said on this subject. It would be interesting to group his list in order of importance, but also very difficult.

when I dream, I dream of golf, and of sinking that 20ft putt to become open champion.

I have a recurring dream about golf, but it's not pleasant like your's MWJ. Mine is always concerned with a frustration of not being able to find a place to tee my ball and still have room to swing the driver, even though the previous group have just done it successfully. This must mean something, but I don't know what.

1) Fresh Air
2) Friends (new and old)
3)The ability to play with complete strangers

(what I mean by this, is if someone came up to you on the tune and started talking to you, most people would think that's a bit wierd), Not having a game on a Saturday, turn up at the club and within 10 mins yr teeing up with someone you've never met before.

4) That perfect shot
5) Having the will to go back out after a horror!
6) Sinking that massive putt!
7) Dreaming of getting better!
8) Being able to play a game on yr own, but still facing a challenge (ie the course), plaing tennis on yr own just isn't the same!
9) The banter
10) Never having to go shopping on a Saturday with HID.
11) Manners and ettiquete
12) The layout of a great golf course, and taking time out to enjoy the scenery, and peace and quite!
13) The odd birdie, or even eagle when I'm really lucky!

I could write about this all day! :D

The fact that when I am on the course I am forced to forget about work. Having to turn off the mobile and Blackberry, being about to escape clients and emails, in this day of constant communication, the golf course is one of the few places where I can truely escape for a few hours and relax.
