Why is this game so great?

After my previous post about my woes with my driver I thought I would let you all know that I absolutley ripped it today apart from 2 holes.

Im a happy golfer again.

My thoughts...
Because you can play on your own, with a friends or strangers
Because it forms life long friendships
Because it is, and always will be, a game where the rules are king and cheats truly do not prosper
Because it breeds hope
Because the handicap system creates a level playing field
Because you can play it from a toddler to when you get finally get custom fitted for an oak cloak
Because it teaches you patience and humility
Because it gets you out in the fresh air
Because no two round are ever the same
Because it can pick you up from the pits of personal despair
Because it has the ability to puts you back in your box when you're getting a bit too pleased with yourself
Because it takes you to the most awe inspiring places
Because you can have a beverage half way through the game and still perform like a sportsman

…and about a million other (good) things

What I love most is that you never know whats going to happen next. It simply is the best sport in the world.

Why is this game so great?
Because it is so bloody addictive it takes over your life. If I counted how many times I think about golf in a day it would be scary. I cant resist getting a club out of my bag for a waggle, I spend too much time on this forum, I dress like a golfer when I'm not playing golf and finally, when I dream, I dream of golf, and of sinking that 20ft putt to become open champion.

Why is this game so great?

You can be a high hcp player and still play a shot like a pro.

You get to spend cash and justify it as a sport with HID

A plumber can be playing with a CEO of a large company on the course and it doesn't matter one jot.

And yes I am a golf addict and nothing can change that, I watch the weather websites at least 4 times a day to check my round weather, once I get back from playing I wash and dub my shoes, I then clean my clubs (I have even washed my balls at times!! ), I buy clothes only for there golf wearing ability, in 8 months of playing my wardrobe has changed from casual to polos and wind jammers.

Totally agree, I read in last months GM on a whiskey ad:-

Golf is the most fascinating game, its taken me 40 years to realise I can not play it

I chuckled at that.
