Anyone know how this will work . Our big one is barton cup .
scratch Foresomes
14 cobination . Off last years lowest .
Home draw is 3 home 2 away
Say the opposing teams have a difference of 2 in slope rating .
2 x7 handicappers v 2 x 7 handicappers wont realy be even match up will it ?

If it was singles or just an open 4somes the away teams or players handicaps would b adjusted up r down acording to whs .
How will it work in a scratch game ..

Hope ye understand the question ?

im guessing you want handicaps adjusted for slope before they work out which player plays which player off scratch? cant see it happening, think 2 7s still gonna play a 2 7s personally

If that is the case, there would be no reason to adjust for slope, under WHS a handicap index at one club is comparable to the same index at any other club.

Is this what you are talking about?

The Barton Cup is a Leinster Men’s Foursomes competition that dates back to 1905.
  • Team consists of 10 players
  • Played off scratch
  • Played by Foursomes Match Play
  • Handicap
    • Combined handicap of each pair must NOT be LOWER than 14
    • Lowest playing handicap held in preceding year is the one which applies
If so, the rules will have to be rewritten for 2021 to specify Handicap Index as the Course Handicap and Playing Handicap would not be known for 2021.
No change for 2020.

As above, but if handicaps do matter, everyone will have a course handicap for the course the competition is played on, based on their individual handicap index.
its played on both home (3 matches) away (2matches) at the same time ..
Pairings are made up of combination of handicaps at your own course .
U could play a team with lower course rating in first round . And higher course rating the second round .
guys off 7 on their own course is fine but if they go away, their proper handicap for the slope slope rating of the course they re visiting could b higher or lower . So takes away the equality of the pairings

I don't see how slope or rating is relevant. here. A handicap index obtained at one course is comparable to the same index obtained at any other course, so no change in the way this competition. Unless I am still missing something.

I agree with doublebogey7 - slope is only relevant to handicap events and used to convert handicap index for the course and tees being played.
Home and away players with a handicap index of 7 would play any course and tees off the same handicap (although it may not be 7!).
As rulefan points out they may choose to consider whether to retain the existing numerical restriction applied to handicap indexes (which would resolve most change over issues) or they might wish to try and equate their existing limit to the new handicap index levels. On balance, given the range of handicap levels potentially involved (+ through to 14) and the scope for different translation levels across that, it screams to just leave it as it is and not try to be clever - principle is more important, and retained.
