But there is a case for Cr-Par in matchplay....when players play from different tees with different pars - most likely during mixed matchplay.Perhaps it is true that for matchplay there is no need for CR-Par. Perhaps this will be something to be considered in the 2029 changes.
Also...the inclusion of Cr-Par can make a difference to the shots received by a player in a match played from the same tees. Even if the logical effect of Cr-Par is the same on both players, because it is applied before rounding it has the potential to make a players unrounded CH fall on one side of the 0.5 "rounding line" instead of the other. I've got a match coming up to be played in the next few weeks....yesterday I was giving away 11 strokes, today I am giving away 12. Its all due to the addition of Cr-Par before any rounding of CH takes place.
Yesterday (Slope = 124 , CR = 68.7, Par = 70)
Me: HI 9.8, CH = 9.8/113*124 = 10.7539 = 11
Opponent: HI 20.0, CH = 20.0/113*124 = 21.9469 = 22
He gets 11 shots
Today
Me: CH = 9.8/113*124+68.7-70 = 10.7539+68.7-70 = 9.454 = 9
Opponent: CH = 20.0/113*124+68.7-70 = 21.9469+68.7-70 = 20.6469 = 21
Whilst the inclusion of CR-Par has only reduced my opponents CH by one, because my unrounded CH is now below the 0.5 rounding mark, I actually lose 2 shots off my CH rather than one like my opponent, thus he now gets 12 shots.
(I know you said you understood the maths but others may benefit from it being laid out).
