No.

I am not the handicap chairman neither am I responsible for administering handicaps within the office. I am just on a comps and handicaps sub committee. I was doing the meet and greet and taking the cards in to check for 2s when somebody asked for their card back. I could see the phone in his hand with the EG app opened and watched what was happening on the table they were all on.

The come from outside of our county. I have a fair suspicion of what is happening re handicaps at the club they come. Membership is just £1 and then it is pay and play and you can join from anywhere in the country.
£1 !! 😮 Which club is that?

I assume they need to pay their county and national union fees on top of that, making it closer to a hefty £20

Your club's handicap committee should be deleting any unacceptable scores submitted by any players at their club, including visitors.
Thank you for that, I didn't realise that you could delete scores made at your golf club by players who are not members at your club - I just checked on our club's portal and saw that you can - every day iis a school day

Cheaper than igolf.
and you get a County Card and EG insurance and, unlike iGolf, your handicap would be acceptable for all Opens.

Incidentally I played there on Monday - it is a great layout in reasonable condition £36 18 holes coffee and bacon roll beforehand and a basket meal afterwards, unbelievable value.

You'd probably be less agitated if you took some time to understand handicapping a little better. There's been enough good information posted in these threads (buried among some absolute nonsense, admittedly) to have dispelled these myths and fallacies for you.
Very nice of you to put me right.
There are also people explaining on here the scores have gone crazy.
Maybe you should listen instead of being so high and mighty .

It happens. It's the nature of amateur handicap golf.
I shot 79 (net -10) a few weeks ago (recreational round, but played to strokeplay rules). It didn't feel like an especially great round but it was my best ever.
Yesterday I felt like I had a great round and took 91 strokes. 🤷‍♂️
Just my observations that have happened at my club.
And by some comments like the OP it’s not the only one.
Most of the winners at my place are 18/26 cappers they can play the game but WHS for whatever reason has put them up several shots.

Great knock by the way.

I get where the lower guys are coming from, but cheats will cheat any system. I guess we're just lucky at our place. We're small, so everyone knows everyone else.
Our order of merit leader this year is mid-single figures and has won his comps with low to mid 30s points. The only 40 pointer was last week by a guy whose 16 HI is definitely genuine. I'm playing him in our matchplay knockout on Saturday, so hopefully that was his aberrant great round for the year rather than the start of a purple patch.

Just to put things into perspective a little.
As I've stated before, the main issue for me is people (for whatever reason) playing off of incorrect handicaps, WHS has exacerbated an already flawed system in my opinion.

We have 4 tees.
Red / green / yellow & white
The high scores come almost exclusively from the high handicap Seniors section.
Not improving or returning players, simply players playing off of too high a handicap.

They play qualifiers through the winter where their handicaps increase expediently compared to their true ability in better conditions.
Then when the weather improves the incredible scores start coming in.

Even if I shoot below par (gross) I won't beat them, any comp I play in with them, all I am effectively doing is adding my money to their prize fund.

The only chance I've got in any comp is to play the white tee (furthest back) comps which the high handicappers don't enter.
These comps & maybe some off the yellows are the only ones that are usually won by a small margin at or just below par.

I just like playing with old clubs.

I've played eight different courses in the last fortnight, singles and pairs, I had different handicaps at different courses and formats.

But thankfully it didn't take away my enjoyment of playing with old clubs.

Did they play such qualifiers prior to WHS? I get the impression that the pressure from the 'authorities' to play more qualifiers, especially through the winter, may have contributed to some better net scores in the summer.
Our senior section is now playing a few winter qualifiers but my club is not experiencing any abnormal scores as yet.

Just a few.
The main difference now has been the introduction of a shortened measured course off of properly constructed tee boxes & mats during winter.
Most low handicap players at my clubs just play infrequent leisure golf from Nov - April, whereas the Seniors keep playing qualifiers, I've actually seen them playing in the snow (I'm not kidding)

Are the low handicappers prohibited from playing in winter comps or submitting EG rounds in the app or will their egos not take their handicaps going up a little.
If their handicaps are 6 months behind everyone else then they don't really have much right to complain, do they?

If all course ratings are done for summer conditions and even these recently rated shorter courses are playing significantly more difficult in winter and the scores are not being ‘evened out’ via the PCC, so players in winter inevitably increase their handicap isn’t there an issue there?

Our course is easier in the Winter and harder in the summer, in my opinion the difference in course rating does not actually take in to account just how firm the fairways get leaving many "good shots" bouncing off the fairways and blocking out second shots to greens.

Is that borne out by the scores? Does PCC kick in more frequently in summer than I winter?

Cheats' charter... especially if clubs don't keep a handle on it.
Of course I'm sure Orchardleigh are not condoning cheating, just offering a handicap at an affordable price.

The white flowers are growing so finding a white ball in the rough is getting impossible. I'm playing with yellow so maybe the course ratings should be adjusted to take into account the colour of your ball and colour of the flowers :ROFLMAO:
The fairways are hard so the ball is running. Maybe a counter adjustment in the ratings, particularly slope, are needed as this may benefit higher handicappers more?
