Ok.Webb Simpson won the US open but I'm not that impressed. He scrapped to a win with a score of one over par. Hardly as exciting as when Mcllroy won last year with a score of sixteen under par. I was watching this video last night when he had not long attained no 1 status and he said you 'know you are doing something right when you are in the spotlight'

I feel gutted that he didn't make the cut this year in the US open and that the spotlight did shine on him but this time only for doing things wrong.,..

Webb Simpson will be impressed, don't think he'll lose any sleep that your not. And on Rory, he's a spoilt brat who'll never be as good as tiger.

You don't have to have low scores for golf to be exciting - last year was the exception rather than the rule. I didn't see any of it but it seems a bit unfair to say he 'scrapped to a win' just because he finished 1 over par. He beat everyone else and that's all he had to do.

McIlroy might like the spotlight but it'll get increasingly uncomfortable for him if he doesn't start making more cuts!

I'm impressed.
He won the US Open for Heaven's sake!
He beat the best players in the world and coped best with the very tricky conditions and course set-up.
He proved to be the best player over those 4 days.

re: McIlroy - last year wasn't exciting it was a procession. This year big names & lessor known players came close - but not close enough!

This year was a game for the purists - it was the equivilent of a Rugby Union forward battle in wet conditions - lots of rucks and mauls and little open running rugby.

I'm impressed, he won the US Open and shot 68-68 on the weekend on a brutal track in doing it. It is near impossible to know without playing the course, but I assume that I would struggle to shoot anything near 100 on that track in a meaningless round with mates let alone on the weekend of a major. I'm also impressed that he finished 2nd on the US money list last year (yes he played more events than others but a great achievement regardless) and has continued to improve.

I like McIlroy but I also think he needs to get his head back onto his game. In recent months he's been promoting, making videos, making cameo appearances at tennis and baseball games and so on.

He got to the top in golf by getting his head down and working on his game, focussing on his golf. To get better he needs to get back to that.

I have more respect for Luke Donald in that respect. If he plays well he's humble and if he plays not so good he takes some positives and works hard on what didn't go too well to keep improving. A true professional and worthy number 1 in my eyes.

plus one on this,
the scores and set up were as we've come expected a US open a war of attrition rather than a regular tour event shot out like last years set up.

and this sums up Rory at present IMO.
