who do you think would win between...

two players of the same handicap with one player from a parkland and one from a links. compeition over two days at two neutral venues. one links and one parkland.

i know where i sit but i am intrested to hear what you lot think.

:p

Personally, I'd guess Mr Parkland.

I need to be a lot straighter on my current course than I did on the link courses back up north. If you can keep it straight, you're halfway there IMHO.

However, the BIG factor in this is what the same handicap actually was. If they're both of 25, I think it's a bit of a lottery. If it's closer to scratch, I reckon Mr Parkland takes it. If he's got down to that level, he'll know how to keep the ball down in the wind on the links.

Just my opinion, happy to be proven wrong.

id probs say the links player, cos they could play at both courses, where as some people struggle at links if they've never played it before.

But as Imurg says too many variables that can influence the out come.

I think it depends on the players themselves and the courses they play at and the conditions on the days the comp is played. Unless the day they play links is blowing a gale then i would back the parkland player as long hes from a tight tree lined parkland course and not one of these daft resort type wide open slash n bash type ones.

Which course is more tricky - handicap relates to SSS/CSS and doesn't necessarily travel.
Have they played the courses before?
Have they even played the other style before?
What's the weather like?
Are they both playing well at the moment?
Do they hit the ball a similar distance - if the parklnad guy is shorter but playes a short course he's going to struggle on a longer one - and vice versa

That'll do for starters...

SSS similar and both playing good golf near the end of the season.

the weather is, as usual, unpredictable at best. we have had the 4 seasons in one round both days.

Interesting, as i played a guy off the same handicap as me in the Moray league. we played at a parkland course, and the game was halfed.

but on a links or a tighter course i would have won no bother. he was so wide off the tee that he was on another fairway and pref safe. on a links he would have lost many golf balls;)

so links;)

If the standard scratch system works as it should the match (assuming both players had a reasonable day) be halved or at least very close and either could win!

My money's on the links guy though!
