I'd go for the Links player - from personal experience.

When I went from Links to Parkland, I was immediately docked 2 shots on General Play. Back to to Links some time later, it took 6 months to play to handicap (9). When I returned to Parkland, I shot level par!

The Americans do very well at the Open not sure about the other way round but I suppose playing in the wind would be tricky for most parkland golfers. Impossible to say for sure but I will go with links.

Really thought this was gonna be one of those threads about who would win in a fight between a badger & a bag of squirrels’ type things

High h/caps then its the links lad, low h/caps goes to the parkie bloke

Reasoning is that a high h/cap can get mullered by a links course to a greater extent/degree than the reverse, while a low h/cap can better protect their score against a disastrous day at the beach

(and of course I know this logic is flawed ;))

edit to add: my money's on the bag of squirrels

I'm going for links - in my experience you need more variety of shots on a links course which would probably give them the edge.

I would have gone for the links player. More versatile when it comes to shot selection and usually a straighter driver as the penalty on a links course tends to be more harsh (gorse, pot bunkers, OB etc)

ive gone for links. i dont get why some people say the parkland golfer will be the straighter hitter off the tee. any good links course ive played you need to be able to hit the fairway. go into the long stuff and you are snookered.

when a links course is dry you need to aim well short of the flag. if you pepper it at the pin then you may just start walking out the back of the green.

i have always held the belief that links guys who play off low numbers have to be really really good players. the wind always blows.

never ever has a course brought me to my knees quite like a links. 5 blanks in a row at rossapenna ! i will be back. i owe that course one!! lol

What sort of course is this match played on?

For my money, I'd back the heathland player. He should have all the necessary skills.

Links or parkland can be a bit one dimensional. Either way.

That said, a good player is a good player, what ever the venue.

Guys used to big greens struggle with small ones, and vice versa. Too many variables, and a handicap is a handicap. According to congu, they should travel.
