Who carries a crap hacker?

Wouldn't be the first time I have seen this.

Some years ago playing at Golf Teguise (?) on Lanzarote I was paired with an ex-pat who had a set of lovely shiny Mizunos. However, if you have played there you will know that you do not need to stray too far off line to be on volcanic rock and ash, all of which was "in play".

Hence this chap carried two 7 irons; a lovely, shiny Mizuno and a beat up, old Slazenger for use off said rock.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a left handed 7 iron (I'm right handed) for those shots where a pesky tree gets in the way of a right handed swing.

My late father in law used to carry a LH 8 iron for similar reasons... He was 'naturally' left handed but golfed right handed as when he started playing left handed pre-owned clubs were relatively hard to come by...

I only carry 13 clubs and I do have a demo Nike pro combo 6 iron so I might start carrying it for dodgy shots... Is it legal to carry two of the same club?

A left handed club would be no good for me, just looking down at them seems wrong. Tried hitting one once but after a few air shots and a top I gave up trying. Reckon I would be off 36 if I had to play left handed:)

Perfectly legal.

Plenty of instances where players (including pro's) who were struggling with aspects of their game have carried two putters or two drivers.
Makes me realise that we sometimes fuss too much about making certain we have the perfect set of 14.

I wouldn't carry one. For me I'd fill the bag with something I'd use. That's just my own preference but if you think you'd use it, and I guess you have to decide how often you find these ditches (and then maybe work out a better strategy!) then go for it

I don't find them enough to warrant a panic attack, but I also hate having to take a drop when I do because I'm sympathetic to my shinies.

Find the ditches 1 shot in 5 rounds as an average?

We had a forum member craphacker (Clive) what happened to him? Hello if you are reading this!

Back on topic, I used to carry a R/H 7 iron when a member at High Elms. My drive on the 10th usually ran down the slope to the bushes on the right hand side and playing out right handed was the only option. Getting on the green was only the start of your problems though. That and the 13th there are two of the toughest greens in the area.

Back on topic, I don't think its a good idea to carry an old club on the off chance that you find some really bad rough that you would want to play from. Much better to carry a club that you would use more often and make up the full 14 IMO.

What he said.

I used to carry a 7 iron, wrapped it round a tree, so worthwhile at the time.

Then I used the 6 iron, but now I have an extra rescue, so no room in the bag anymore...
