as a raw novice and still heeding the 'hit it straight first'advice i am very consistent around the 220 range but i can hit it a lot further on the range but tend to be a bit cautious on the course. i will be attempting to tweak it up as i have good upper body strength in reserve.

remember gents this thread last time round is the one that caused Floppy to harbour grudges after having his distances questioned ,that eventually led to a rather ugly end . :(

Yeah if you dont believe them then no harm done, im sure the guys on here will find out about that on the course.
This forum should be and to me is factual and fun!

what happened to floppy did he die cos he wasn't hard enough? sorry who was floppy and what happened your a newbie so it must have been recent , have i mist somethin?

take a look at europeantour.com and check out the tour player average for yourselves, not sure how far people think 280 yds is, I play fairly regular with 2 or 3 guys who are very long in county golf who expect to hit driver onto my last green (282 yrds from elevated tee) but rarely have to notch back a gear to 3 wood!
don't mean to offend anyone but have a check next time you are out, maybe with a skycaddie or the like and you will see exactly how far you do or indeed don't hit it.

Playing at Shotts GC I managed to put a ball in a coal hopper train that passing by the course and was probably headed for Cockenzie power station, so my longest drive was probably about 30 miles !

Railway down the right hand side of the hole. Also had a mate put a ball OOB, bounce of the far side lines and come back into play !

Glad it wasn't matchplay !

I have been hit by golf balls 3 times when passing Stonehaven golf course on the train, only once did it go back into the course guy on the tee gave me a big thumbs up as I passed.

Train driver Toad? The East coast line must be the dream job for a golfing train driver. Panmure, Carnoustie, Elliot, Montrose, Stonehaven, Aberdeen.
Thoroughly enjoyed Stonehaven. Without doubt, the course with the best vistas I've played yet.

A_F Yeah it's a fantastic drive up east coast only bad thing is I get to see lots of people playing golf whilst I am working. Not bitter and don't blow my horn when I see someone at the top of their backswing honest ;)

Ha Ha not just me we have a golf section at the work around 15 guys play most weeks, they all confess to doing same thing mate sorry.

Am I the only one amused at how worked up people can get over this area?

If someone wants to lie about their driving, that is there prerogative. They only fool themselves.

Someone tells me they hit a ball 300 yards then I say well done. Golf is about competing against yourself, let others worry about themselves.

I am now off to look at Google Earth! :D

google earth is well good!

It must be at least 320 yds. I give up looking for it in the cr4p at this distance and play my provisional instead which was hit with the 3 wood which goes up to 260 yds conditions permitting but averages about 200 yds with currently 65% fairays hit.

Trouble is, averaging only 200ish doesn't help GIR stats.
