ok i know this is something picked up on before but there are a lot of new members to the forum so id like to ask.
How far is your average drive?
Do you need a longer long game to improve?
What drills do you like to increase Power and driver distance?

Average around 270 maybe a couple more with a controlled swing but can pull out the odd rediculous ones that goes beyond the call of duty.
The mizuno mp600 seems to be going a little farther than my own srixon though as it has a better shaft.

Carry the ball 230-240 pretty much every time. The overall distance will depend on ground conditions. I'm happy with that so long as it's on the short stuff.

If I'm going for a long one I'll relax the hands, aim high and hit it solidly, avoiding the big lash!

I hit a very high ball so get no run whatsoever unless it lands on a steep slope. Im even using TM RAC low trajectory irons and they still go pretty high.

MVP, you use the same range as me. A decent drive for me in normal calm conditions carries high into the net inbewtween the trees at the top of the mound. If I miss the mound the carry is 1/2 way up the fence with a real ball so probably a 260yd carry I would estimate. Obviously terminal distance would be variable dependant on ground conditions.

My drives on the course are shorter as I dont give it total commitment. I always tend to make an arse of it when going for a real snorter on the course.

is this refering to carry or overall distance, my carry is usually about 220, and obviously overall distance depends on conditions although i usually get little roll compared to most, due to a vary high launch angle.

This is a difficult question and obviously doesn't have a simple answer. It's a matter of carry and roll versus the prevailing conditions. I usually play with a guy who hits about 250 yards but it's 50% flight ang 50% roll for him. In summer conditions he can manage 280 yards I should think. I get about 85% flight and 15% roll. In the winter my ball stops more or less where it lands. I'm happy to get over 200 yards so long as it's on the short stuff. I'm in reach of the green on most of our par fours, but then, I'm off 15 handicap, so I'm not supposed to reach all the par fours in two.

If I could keep them straight, I'd be nearer 280-300 all the time. As it is, I hover in that 250-280 bracket, with probably a 70-30 split on carry and roll. However when the brain is empty and the swing is behaving, the big dog can run out of fairway on some of our holes at 300+.

9.5deg of MX-500 stiff launched hound will do that for ya!

Here we go again, it's big dick time.

Right now, in these wet, cold, windy, receptive fairway conditions, I would be stunned if anyone on here is averaging 280 yards. A lot of pros don't hit this far, and they only play in the sun.

Buy a tape measure.

I was on a launch monitor just before Xmas and was very surprised !!! I hit a big ball compared to most people I play with, and on the range, the markers tell me i'm around 260-280.

The results were . . . 220 / 230 carry with decent tempo and accuracy. Sometimes squeezed 250 / 260 carry if I opened up, but obviously lost accuracy.

I agree Murphthemog - most people dont hit it as far as they think they do.

probably bottom end of 235 but the excursions are much wider than this. excluding the tops and duffs, 210 - 280. It will be nice to see what I can get in the summer now that I have a big banger.

This topic quite often gets a little heated in certain quarters.

At the end of the day I have no reason to bullshit, MVP uses the same range as me and knows the guys there so I would look like a right tool if I was to come on here and talk a load of old pony.

Same for Lewis (MVP), I would soon know if he was talking crap as I am part of the furniture at the range!

I average between 210 and 230 but I am happy with that as most of those are now on the fairway or light rough. Possibly used to hit a bit further but only 1 in 10 would be findable let alone on the fairway.

Well I have ditched Driver at minute as I was literally a liability with mine. Could wreck the card at any given time.

G10 3-wood runs out to about 220-250 depending on conditions, wind etc. So might carry 210-230, condition dependant? (Carry distance a complete guess BTW :D )

I don't own a Big Dog but from borrowed ones I would say about 220 to the bounce with 10% run-on.

At my level of skill it would be a waste. I use a hybrid off the tee mainly as the course I play has narrow fairways bordered with tall, mature trees that punish the idea of borrowing fairways. If all goes well I get about 180 to the bounce with it.

If it was a different course I might be temped by the hit it and find it philosophy though.

For me at the moment it's a percentage game and I try and play well within myself
