I'll admit that my yardage is based on how far I am from the green, so I can only blame my course yardages if my distance is out.

Not sure what is so exceptional about hitting 250-280 though. Pro distances only include the ones on the short stuff don't forget! Personally, I'd be much happier with 230-240 on the fairway guaranteed, but I hit it further and where it ends up is a bit of a lottery!

And does it really matter what other people claim to you? Surely the only distance that matters is your own?

And even then the only distance that matters is the six inches between your ears...

Driving distance is (a) difficult to measure accurately and (b) variable depending on wind/temperature and ground conditions so I voted 235-255 yds with my new Titleist D1 as a rough guess.

I would say that driving accuracy is more important. Last year I hit 48% of fairways, down from 56% from the previous year. I'd much rather be on the short stuff and 30 yards back from a ball in the semi or rough or worse. If I can actually get to the range for some driving practice, it'll be on trying to keep the ball straight rather than trying to hit it further.

I carry it on average 241.2yds.
I know this because it was measured on the Trackman when I was fitted for my driver. What happens to the ball after that depends entirely on conditions of the day.
Distance means nothing though if all you're doing is carrying it 241.2 yds into the trees. I'd happily give up 40yds to hit the fairway everytime.

Even quoting carry is a nonsense. I carry it 200 yards with a 14 degree launch, but this is tested in december, on a cold day, with rubbish balls, and a slight wind. What does that tell me? Zip. My drives land fairly flat, and so run out a fair bit. How far? who knows. Depends on softness of ground, length of grass, make of ball, anything.
My average drive is between 180 and 420 yards. (420 at altitude by the way, on a down hill par 5).

For your 'average drive', are we talking average weather conditions, average grass length, average wind speed, average mud?

It is definately big dick time.

And by the way Medwayjon, I am sure you hit a decent ball, and have no reason to bull, it's just that numbers like this are meaningless.

Why are people get so uptight about this question? MVP's asked it and people are answering it. If you don't want to answer, then don't.
Is it just because it's the driver thing? If MVP had asked "How far do you hit your 6 iron?" would that have annoyed people enough to start comparing genitalia?

Talking of which? Do women compare driving distances? and do they talk about big tits time?

It's just something that bugs me, because it is meaningless.

But you are right in one thing Atticus, I shall stop posting on this because I can't see where it is going.

And no, it wouldn't make any difference what club it is, it is just the whole deal.

Not sure if women compare, they are probably too sensible.

It is definately big dick time.

And you sure are demonstrating that mate.

If you're not interested, then prove it by keeping out of this topic!

As to the original question, I can honestly say it's not length I need to work on but accuracy - and I'm pretty sure this applies to all of us. Monty didn't win all those order of merits by spraying the ball everywhere.

If however, you do want to add distance, then you need to work on those big muscles - the legs and the back. It ain't the arms that get it out there, it's the torque you can create and how quickly you can unwind it.

YouTube Hogan video and the Hi-motion video of Tiger Woods for evidence. Woods looks like his toes are only just about keeping him on the planet, such is the force of his leg drive.

Remember peeps, over half of your shots will be from 50yds in...

I think this thread is vindicated by the fact we can discuss all areas of golf, its not a threat to your manly being if you hit the ball 230 or 280, what it does er do, is give other members here a better idea of the posters game, ie someone who hits a long drive may be asking for assistance or advice on another area of the game and knowing as much as possible about that person helps to give slightly more tuned advice.

Hope that made sense, Your driver is drawing in #1 position of your most important clubs, only equalled by your putter, wedge, 9,8,7,6,5,4,3irons and fairway wood.

I work on a carry of 210-220, and put myself in the 235-255 bracket on the poll.

t.b.h. at the moment, I might only carry 200-ish and then get no run at all. Sadly.

My biggest (Sunday best) with the old 12 degree Great Big Bertha was around 250. I have sneaked over 270 on a few occasions with my 10 degree FT-3 Callaway.

I have a slow rhythm and lowish club-head speed (90-95mph).
But it's reliably accurate, and if I can sneak a few more yards out of it as the weather and my game improves, then I'll be happy, unless it gets more wayward too!!!

Here we go again, it's big dick time.

Yeah! I've been in the showers too Murph.

Before I get mine out, it IS very cold up here in Scotland.

The word that makes it almost impossible for me to answer correctly is 'AVERAGE'. That buggers my stats up.

A drive that would make me say 'I will take that' is about 240.
A drive that makes me smile is about 260
A drive that makes me hold the finish and pose for the cameras is 280+

Ah, here we go again!

Before anyone starts going on about how far they hit it the best thing to do is go have a look at your course on Google Earth and get some real accurate measurements. You might be suprised.

I think I carry it about 225yds on a still warm mid summer day on AVERAGE, with whatever roll I get from that. That's plenty for me at under ten stone!

260 in winter
280 in summer

350 if I shank it onto the main road and watch it trundle off onto the hard shoulder.

Same as that.

I didnt realise people were gonna get eggy about driving stats as they said at my primary school!

MedwayJon can probably add 10 yards to his distance considering he uses NXT tours on course, thats about how much extra i get in comparison to a range ball and i hit it bout the same!

To wind people up a bit more i hit my 3wood 270 on occasions but thats my fault, remember to have fun while discussing your topics whatever the size of your shaft!

if medwayjon`s hittin it 260 on the fly -i`ll have a pint of what he`s had !if that is the case ,why`s he testing a new driver...long drive comps await big `m`

I am trying a new driver because I no longer have my 454 comp. It was time to let that go as somebody offered me a big profit on it so hence off it went! It was only a stop-gap after my beloved f-speed died.

It is an absolute peach of a drive that carries the 260 mark don't forget.

Dodger, Swearing at people & calling names is a wee bit out of order.

I'm sure that we will get on about other topics but on this occassion, and I hope that I am speaking for others here, wind that neck in and drop the insulting posts.

Rant Over, no personal offence taken, Jon.

BTW, I drive long but am crap in other areas which evens it out.

Have to agree with the23rd man , after using google earth over my course i had to knock a fair few yards off what i thought my average was . But in the end most of it is ego most of us probably hit far enough to get a few birdies on a good day and if one drops you may be lucky enough to eagle. But i bet every one would be more than happy with par .

Why are you saying top 120 average tour drives??
Also why refer to our handicaps?

Remember if your handicap is in the teens doesnt mean you cant hit a ball!
i hit a long drive and im in my teens, the only reason im in my teens is because im proper jank at putting, so it dont mean nish what your handicap is!
