• We'd like to take this opportunity to wish you a Happy Holidays and a very Merry Christmas from all at Golf Monthly. Thank you for sharing your 2025 with us!

What's the state of your greens currently?

Ours are very very poor, last week, the first week of August they did green maintenance!!!

They are slow, look dry and have large "rings" on them.

It's very disappointing when you're paying over £1300 a year!

How are everyone else's greens?

Sounds like you have smart green keepers who are doing maintenance at the best time of year. They should fully recover by the end of the month and will be great for September and autumn.

Our greenkeeper has just issued their weekly newsletter explaining exactly why this is the optimum time to be working on the greens. In a few days we won't notice what little disturbance there might have been. Our greens have always been rated highly.

Try good considering 3 years ago pre me joining they lost 80% of them as feared complete replanting was needed. Fringes and approach aprons are also pretty good, a couple of earthy patches on 3 or 4 greens but good.

Fairways are taking a battering and the next two weeks being 26-30 every day will take its toll I think

I have to say ours are in excellent condition at the moment, fast and true. In the past they've been a bit fluffy but I've played in a couple of medals over the last 2 weeks and they've been spot-on.

I hope so, I'm visiting on the 28th Aug. Always look forward to it

Greens will be ok by 28 Aug - at least 90% recovered, hopefully 100%.

Although the course will play fine, it won't look very pretty: new bunkers on 11-16 will be GUR as well as a few green extensions.

Edited to add a photo of 17, the extension to the green will be a no play zone until next spring, but you will still play to the current green. It’s still a good hole, will be superb next season. You can also see how much the greens have recovered in a couple of weeks!

Ours are pretty good although I did play at Cleckheaton last week and they were really nice. Like a green carpet you could go to sleep on 😁

Ours atm are as good as I have seen this year.
Very quick but like concrete chipping is difficult.
Havnt needed a pitchmark repairer for months.

The rest is burnt out and hasn’t really recovered from the last heatwave.
Getting some very bad lies around the greens .
Need some rain badly.

Interestingly Jamie has just got back from playing the Junior Open at Formby and said the greens were disappointing - although the course was mint.

Given the weather that we’re expecting ( heatwave) I can see Greenkeepers putting the mower blades up a few mm.
This protects the grass in severe heat.

Ours are brilliant. Never seen them cut to 3mm before. The Head Greenkeeper is very comfortable with this.
Fortunately we have our own artesian well and and a water extraction licence from the adjacent river (suspended temporarily).
Now back to 4mm
