Was just thinking about the 'Play your best challenge' and what it would take for me to literally do that...

Obviously moving to Florida and being a member at Trump Doral is out of the question, as is having Sean foley on my speed dial, but realistically what would you need/want to play your best... in the UK

I would need....

12 gloves
2 boxes of Titleist ProV1x PER MONTH (24 dozen)
Set of fitted Irons
Putter fitting
Couple of hybrids
Driver fitting
2 pairs of shoes
3 pairs of trousers
Windproof jumper
Stand bag
Several hats
Some Waterproofs
Laser Measuring device
Several under armour garments
Winter glove things for the trolley handle
Golf coach with trackman & video analysis available (at least once per month)

am I missing anything?

For me to play my best i would prefer.
Warm weather.
Course in peak condition.
And good company.
To me that is all i would require,to play in a positive enviroment and in good company, nothing better imo.

I don't know, I think changing EVERYTHING like that plus coaching changes would mean I would struggle to find consistency this year. Maybe in another year of sticking with the gear and lessons it would pay off, but sounds like too many changes for me.

I think Rooter has it, all the stuff would be nice but the thing we would all need to significantly improve is time.

I think to some extent it's this last element, but extended to include the guy caddying for you once a month as well!

Seriously, we all play our best from time to time but it's that elusive link through to 'what went wrong', and why did I completely melt down when it did, that converts it long term (all 18 holes would be good) performance.

What I found interesting watching Phil and Tiger over the 4 days last weekend was just how good they were when they swung at 100% relative to their 110% swings - so even they have some of the same issues in their heads from time to time! When Phil was clubbing the same as his playing partners you just knew the result before he hit it - when he was 1, or 2, clubs shorter things crept in... :(

Don't know why you are ruling Florida out though....cheaper than all those V1x's :)

Time and an endless supply of decent balls! Roll on the late nights - last night was officially the 1st night the sun has still been up when I've left the office!

It has crossed my mind that I've NEVER in 20yrs of playing golf (on and off) bought a dozen premium balls, I just play with pick-up balls. I have bought a few boxes of Noodle+ and AD333 balls, but not many. Just seems so expensive.

I have bought 2 boxes of Bridgestone B330 S 'cos they were on offer I could afford it; and I also bought 3 boxes of Penta's back from the US. In each case the prices would have been down with your Noodles :)

Played pick ups for a few years now - Titliest's advertising must be working as I am finding more and newer ProV's all the time :whoo:

Ebay. Pearl/Mint grade balls. Very cheap if you're looking for AD333s or the like and as good as new, I can't imagine not playing the same ball all the time its just adding another variable to an already variable-packed equation! Each to their own, but I like playing the same the whole time and maybe bought 12 new balls last year for special occasions. Rest of the time if I spray a Pearl Prov1 OOB its no harm done, only £1.50 lost max. I might lose one ball every couple of rounds so the premium is low.

unemployment would be nice

failing that moving closer to a golf course. ideally having a house that backs onto a green thats miles away from the club house so i could practice my short game with no one to bother me!

I'd love to, just can't afford it. Funnily enough it's making me wonder just what I can afford, and the answer is "not much"
Never had fitted clubs, never had NEW clubs actually, only ever owned one pair of 'branded' golf shoes, never owned waterproofs in 20yrs until the missus got me some Dunlops last year, Smiffy gave me some waterproofs a few years back which was really appreciated (although they weren't waterproof). Never played a premium ball unless I'd found it first, never bought a branded golf glove, , Murphthemog and Leftie have both given me their old pull trolleys...hmmm....starting to feel like a proper scumbag right now. Maybe I should find a more appropriate sport..... chess sounds affordable

- I'd like a bag review rather than a complete overhaul i.e. a day with a trained fitter to go through my current bag of clubs and see if they are the best clubs for me.
- Golf lessons with my coach for a year paid for a one hour lesson every three or four weeks
- A few sessions with a mind coach to help improve my thinking on the course
- Some sessions and guidance from someone like Annette from Fitness4Golfers to help me improve my conditioning.
- and a laser rangefinder for practice and play

To be honest I'm trying to do most of these things myself in terms of the coaching and conditioning. But the bag review and mind coaching are more than a little out of my price range

Na man once you get into chess it goes crazy :)

I didn't realise the above so I get now what you mean by getting fit out for the whole shabang. I was fit for my irons and driver, everything else came 2nd hand from ebay. I changed a few things over the winter and already wonder if I'm going to struggle with consistency bedding in the new additions (4W, hybrid and PW). Not sure change is always the answer!

There's probably a few forumers with a load of ProV1xs they've picked up and cant play who wouldn't mind some of the Zstars you don't bother with, might be worth a punt to ask in the swap section (that rarely gets used for swapping), thing to do would be make the quantities work out regards cost of postage, or better yet do the exchange at meets. If it works great and if not its a dead thread. Just trying to think of ways of making the coming season better, I can't for the white tees to go out.

At first I was thinking a miracle would do it for me.

Then I was wondering about having the mortgage and bills paid so I could but time into my game.

But then ultimately it came to desire and commitment. I honestly don't think I could muster a desire to go to the course every day to practice for hours like the pros do. So, back to a miracle again then! :)
